00:11with special focus on the nation's airports on both islands following the fatal shooting at the Piaco International Airport this morning.
00:20Speaking with TV6 News in the aftermath of the incident, Benjamin expressed condolences to the family of the victim.
00:27That being said, in terms of the national security posture as we lead to the police service, we are very much concerned about what has transpired.
00:42He said that the TTPS would be treating the issue seriously.
00:47According to the Acting Commissioner, the TTPS has long anticipated an uptick in violent incidents following the expiration of the state of emergency.
00:57He noted that law enforcement officials have remained on alert, especially with reports indicating that gang activity remains a persistent threat.
01:09We recognize that persons are going to try to become more brazen as it's, you know, the end of the SOE.
01:21But we are saying that we are prepared for that, because even though this is happening in the airport, which is of great concern,
01:29we are saying that we are going to step up our security as we lead to the airport.
01:36While the murder itself drew national and even international attention due to its location,
01:43Benjamin emphasized that the TTPS applies the same level of seriousness to all homicides, regardless of location.
01:52He noted that Deputy Commissioner of Police Kurt Simon has reportedly given directives for increased police presence and special operations,
02:01not only in the North Central Division, where the incident took place, but across all 10 policing divisions.
02:09We are going to step up our security as we lead to the airport.
02:14We are presently, the TCP operation has called all his divisional commanders,
02:21and we are planning some strategies, and not just for the North Central Division,
02:27but all our divisions as we seek to step up our security posture.
02:32Benjamin also noted that the TTPS would be implementing new protocols and operational strategies at the airport itself,
02:41with the intent of preventing any similar occurrences in the future.
