00:00A brazen ambush just outside Pianko International Airport has left one man dead and two others injured.
00:06The victim, identified as 34-year-old Akeem Quash, had just returned to the country when gunmen opened fire as he left the airport.

00:20This was how the murder of 34-year-old Akeem Quash, also known as Sowers, of Pear Street in Maraval, outside of the Pianko International Airport this morning, has been described.
00:33Quash succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds shortly after being transported to the Orema General Hospital.
00:39Two other persons were injured in the drive-by shooting.
00:42They are a 35-year-old man from La Plata Village in Maraval, who sustained gunshot wounds to both legs,
00:50and a 32-year-old man from Paramin Road in Maraval, who was the driver of the vehicle that was shot up.
00:57He suffered minor injuries while trying to escape the shooters.
01:00The 32-year-old man was taken to the Orema Hospital, where he is listed in a stable condition.
01:06Police were told that Quash had arrived on a flight from Panama and was leaving the airport when the incident occurred.
01:14But on reaching a blue Hyundai Tucson, which was there to pick him up, another vehicle drove past and the occupants opened fire on the SUV.
01:24Quash was shot multiple times and collapsed on the ground.
01:27One of the other two occupants of the SUV managed to exit the vehicle and run into the Customs and Excise units to seek shelter.

01:42In a press release issued on Thursday, the Airport's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago said that immediately following the incident at the airport,
01:50senior officers from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service held a meeting with officials from the authority
01:55to work out measures for strengthening and enhancing security at the facility.
01:59It was said that some of these measures will go into effect immediately, while others will be implemented in the coming days.
02:07Additionally, other agencies within the national security framework have committed resources aimed at deterring events of this kind in the future.
02:14The release stated that the authority, in partnership with the TTPS and other agencies,
02:20will continue to ensure that the airport environment remains a safe and secure location for airport users and stakeholders.
