00:05getting, well, angry at being skewered for telling the truth

00:09about his dinner with Donald Trump.

00:11He's a lot more self-aware than he is in public.

00:15We want the truth. We're thirsty for truth.

00:17I told you the truth.

00:18But Bill says,

00:19You can't handle the truth!

00:21Well, some of you.

00:22It's really only the 10% of the far, far left

00:26who hated me before this.

00:28They wanted to hear that he was the same monster

00:30that they see in public.

00:32And he wasn't.

00:33But it's also sort of irrelevant, right?

00:35Because what's relevant is what he's doing to the country.

00:38It isn't.

00:39If he were really crazy as, you know, in private,

00:43then there is no hope of even talking to him.

00:46Do I have great hopes that saying anything to him

00:51is going to change anything?

00:53No, but you have to try.

00:55I'm proud that I was able to go into the White House

00:58and say to the President of the United States,

01:00look him in the eye and say,

01:01You're scaring people.

01:03Fear is his main goal.

01:05And Bill Maher is humanizing this strong man.

01:08Should he not have gone?

01:09I had the opportunity to talk to Donald Trump

01:12and say the things to him that maybe he never hears.

01:16Literally to speak truth to power.

01:19I shouldn't take that opportunity.

01:21If you're giving access to the President,

01:22no matter who you are,

01:23you should take that access to the President.

01:24And just because you don't agree with him, what?

01:26You're not supposed to talk to him?

01:27Then what's that going to solve?

01:28Any running back will tell you.
