00:00There's a neighborhood in southwest Florida that's being overrun by invasive Muscovy ducks.
00:10Okay.
00:11If ducks are my biggest problem, I think I'm going to be okay with that.
00:15Here's the story from NBC2 about what's going on there.
00:18Duck?
00:19Duck?
00:20Muscovy ducks, yes.
00:22Are a pain in Rosemary Evans' tail feather.
00:25We have major ducks, but the ducks aren't the problem, it's the poop.
00:30She's tried getting rid of their eggs.
00:32I just collect them and give them to the trash people.
00:37She's even trying to fake the ducks out by using rubber snakes near her front door.
00:43Usually they scare delivery people more than anything.
00:46But they just keep coming.
00:47I would have to say for the most part, the neighbors hate the ducks.
00:52Just a few houses down.
00:53So cute, aren't they?
00:55Monique Flippo is doing everything she can to keep her feathered friends safe.
01:00I love them.
01:01I think they're adorable.
01:02And they trust me.
01:03They've laid eggs next to my lanai.
01:07She's feeding them.
01:08There's really no way to really get rid of them.
01:10But Monique says some drivers in her neighborhood are actually speeding up to try to mow the ducks down.
01:18You can see them as you're coming up on them, even if it's dark.
01:21This weekend, she found five ducks flattened in the row.
01:26She thinks that was intentional.
01:28At the end of the day when I came home from work and saw that lonely duck still sitting there, come to find out both of his legs were broken.
01:34This isn't a lighter story.
01:36I thought it was.
01:36I'm sorry.
01:37Well, blame Jason.
01:38Because they're an invasive species.
01:40But most neighbors here agree running the ducks over isn't the solution.
01:44You would probably need a mental evaluation because that's malicious.
01:49To get rid of the ducks, wildlife experts recommend trapping and relocating them.
01:54You cannot run something over just because you don't like it, for God's sakes.
01:58Something's wrong with you.
02:00But poop would suck.
02:01Duck poop all over your place would definitely suck.
02:03But it is because a woman a couple doors down is feeding them all the time.
02:07Ducks would move on to find more food as long as that lady wasn't doing what she's doing.
02:14But she's feeding them giant cups of food every day.
02:16If she stops, they'll leave.
02:17Everybody in the story was crazy.
02:20There was like a lady.
02:20She's like, I put rubber snakes down.
02:21Then there's people smashing these ducks with their cars.
02:27And then the other lady's like, I don't know why people are upset.
02:29I just feed them nonstop.
02:32You're right.
02:33And she was like, you got mental problems if you run them over.
02:36I'm like, you got mental problems for feeding them.
02:39Jason, you had something to add to this, did you?
02:42Well, I think it's important to out all these crazy people.
02:45You can't be collecting eggs and giving them to the trash people.
02:49Yeah, that was another part of that story.
02:51You can't run over ducks.
02:52I didn't even hear that part.
02:53The lady collects the eggs and then gives them to the garbage man?
02:56Yes.
02:56Yeah, the snake lady.
02:59Oh, my.
02:59Yeah.
03:00I couldn't imagine being a garbage man and being like, what do you got there?
03:03What is it?
03:04Ethel.
03:04Them duck eggs?
03:05Yeah.
03:06Baby ducks about to be born.
03:08Your rubber snake scared me.
03:10What a normal interaction between two people.
03:16But if they didn't know, if they didn't know that that chick was feeding them, they do now
03:21because they all were like, we're going to be on the news.
03:24And then they realize, oh, my God.
03:26Now they have to stop that woman.
03:28They're going to run her down next.
03:29Every single one of them in that story had a different kind of mental illness.
03:34Yeah, they did.
03:35For sure.
03:35And apparently a lot of people around there do if they're mowing them down to them.
03:38Unless it's just that one lady.
03:40Unless it's her.
03:41Right?
03:42She hates them so much.
03:43She has no problem killing them.
03:45Right.
03:45She's giving the eggs away.
03:47Yeah.
03:47So I'd look at her as the one, the duck murderer.
03:52I'd point my finger right at her.
03:54Yeah.
03:54Check out the front end of her car.
03:56I can't believe she gave duck eggs to somebody.
03:58What do you do with those?
03:59Well, no.
04:00I think she was trying to say that she throws them out.
04:04Yeah.
04:04She just puts them in the trash.
04:05She just puts them in the trash.
04:06I thought she was giving them as gifts.
04:10Here, I got your duck eggs.
04:11No.
04:11I was like, what do you do?
04:12You fry it up?
04:13I don't understand.
04:15She just stopped.
04:16That would be insane.
04:18That's why I guess I was thinking it was a lot crazier than it was.
04:21I'm like, she's gifting duck eggs to people.
04:23It's still kind of weird, though, that she's just throwing duck eggs away.
04:26That's mean.
04:27Yeah.
04:27Right.
04:28The ducks are like, not cool.
04:29No.
04:29All of it's mean.
04:31Yeah, it absolutely is.
04:32Yeah, the ducks are like, my babies!
04:33And the lady feeding them has good intention, but it's creating a problem.
04:37So you shouldn't feed the ducks.
04:40No, you can't.
04:41Well, think about any ducks that you see around.
04:44Yeah.
04:44They sometimes will land in your yard.
04:47They do.
04:48Yeah.
04:48And you're like, wow, look at this, a couple ducks.
04:50You don't feed them, they'll never leave.
04:51They, yeah.
04:52They, you know, you just.
04:54Because you wait for them to leave.
04:55You're like, okay.
04:55They just go.
04:56They just go.
04:57Enjoy them for the couple minutes that they're there.
05:00Right.
05:00If you want to see them more.
05:02Go to the park.
05:03That's it.
05:04Yeah.
05:04Look, a pond with plenty of things to eat.
05:07I don't think you should feed any wild animal on your own.
05:09No, I never do.
05:10Ever, ever, ever.
05:11Never, never, ever.
05:12It's just going to cause problems.
05:13The only ones I feed are coyotes.
05:15Well, that's fine.
05:16That's totally fine.
05:17Okay, good.
05:18You're all set with that.
05:18You're all set with that.
