No shortcomings and no shortcuts taken, that’s how Prime Minister Stuart Young described the process of bringing the San Fernando Fishing Facility to completion.

Speaking to our reporter Cindy Raghubar-Teekersingh in San Fernando, Prime Minister Young revealed that the project cost taxpayers $35 million and forms part of the government's broader master plan for the development of the country's second city.

00:00As part of the wider billion-dollar San Fernando redevelopment project,
00:05the upgraded fishing facility at Kings Wharf has officially been handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries.
00:13The multi-million-dollar facility was visited by Prime Minister Stuart Young on Saturday morning.
00:1935 million, and understand that would have included the demolition, moving of what existed before.
00:25What you're seeing is 25 fingers of piers, which means 50 vessels could be moored at any point in time.
00:32Understand it's a fishing facility, so it allows vessels to come in, offload their catch, take their catch in,
00:39so their catch doesn't spoil, take their catch into refrigeration, proper disposal.
00:44He says it is just part of government's master plan for the redevelopment of the city of San Fernando,
00:50and while there was a bit of a delay in the project's completion,
00:54he believes it was finished with no shortcomings and no shortcuts being taken.
00:59In January, fishermen voiced concerns over compensation,
01:03stating they were only paid up to that point, despite being told the project would be completed by then.
01:09On Saturday, we asked whether any additional compensation has been provided.
01:14With respect to compensation, again, the government will look at those things responsibly.
01:19Compensation is not something, unlike others, that is just going to throw out money at the population.
01:24That's not going to happen, so I am certain that the person in charge of the project,
01:28if there are legitimate claims for compensation, it will be looked at in a responsible manner.
01:33Member of Parliament for San Fernando West, Fares Selrawi, also addressed the matter.
01:39The CEC obliged us to treat with compensation on this site.
01:43That has been dealt with. That was a condition of the CEC.
01:46There are other affected areas that we're in active compensation talks with and analysis with.
01:52In fact, the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries Division was on site right throughout this position.
01:58That's being collated and assessed.
