We say our emotional goodbye to Fan Favorite Gentle Giant Calais Campbell who signed with the Arizona Cardinals for a $5.5M deal that can get up to $7.5M. The Dolphins continue to let talent walk, we review the decision to let Calais sign elsewhere as Tobin struggles to find the positives.

00:00I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom, and I say to myself, what a wonderful
00:21world.
00:22I'm going to the cardinals.
00:26Man, I'm gonna miss that guy.
00:29I'm really bummed out that Gleyas Campbell is going to the cardinals.
00:33Now, they gave him a lot more money than apparently the Dolphins were offering.
00:37Which is amazing because here's what I can't understand.
00:44I don't know if we necessarily understand the importance of players on our team.
00:51Right?
00:53Because there's two situations that I can think of where those guys made a pretty big
01:01impact and you try to lowball them.
01:05Gleyas Campbell and who's the Russian the year before that went to the Vikings, Van
01:11Ginkel.
01:12They didn't even offer Van Ginkel a contract.
01:14They didn't even offer him a contract.
01:16That's how insignificant you thought he was?
01:19What games are you watching?
01:22He was easily like one of the most impactful defenders, right?
01:26It keeps happening on defense and then, and then, and then, and then you realize you got
01:34rid of a pro bowl because Van Ginkel went to a pro bowl.
01:39Oh yeah.
01:40So I don't like what games are you watching?
01:43Cause the games I'm watching, I'm looking at these guys going, Ooh, he's important.
01:48He's important.
01:49Okay.
01:50We need to keep him.
01:51We need to do this.
01:52Right.
01:53And those are the first guys out the door.
01:54Do you think like, do you think Anthony Weaver, you know, when he gets the news yesterday,
01:59he goes, does he need a minute?
02:02No.
02:03Here's, here's the problem in all businesses.
02:10Your boss makes a decision that affects you, but it's your boss.
02:17So basically you just go with the flow and try to be a company guy.
02:21Okay.
02:22But when he's, when he's sitting at the dinner table with, with Mrs. Weaves and they're having
02:27their meatloaf.
02:28Oh, they talk about work.
02:30Like he got rid of our, our captain and our only other defensive line besides Zach sealer.
02:39But other than that, honey, pasta, ketchup, like you think he's eating a meal that requires
02:46ketchup.
02:47Isn't meatloaf.
02:48I'm not a big meatloaf fan.
02:49I thought it was made with ketchup.
02:50I don't know.
02:51People have it.
02:52Ooh, man.
02:53No, I'm not going to lie as much as I love big spoon, right?
02:59Y'all, y'all know what's up.
03:01Yeah.
03:02If she ever came to me and said, I made a meatloaf, I said, you basically just made
03:07a square shaped hamburger, but like, can I just say, I know last year was a disaster
03:13with the quarterback, but I'm, I'm having a hard time.
03:15Let's get the headlines brought to you by Daryl.
03:16Daryl, how did they choose from over 1300 new, a hundred miles in inventory with Tucson
03:19Sonata and Palisade.
03:20Remember when it comes to Hyundai, the great deals are dry all day.
03:22Hold on.
03:23Hold on.
03:24Before you say, can I put the disclaimer out there?
03:27Yeah.
03:28The disclaimer is this, the guy I do the show with sometimes once a team with feelings and
03:41I like them and stuff like that.
03:45And not always with what they can actually do for the team.
03:49That being said, we'll probably be on the same page with this one.
03:55Let's say the difference was 3 million, 2 million, right?
03:59Now I know people are pointing out the Eichenberg thing, which you guys know how I feel.
04:06Like I literally could put a mannequin out there and I'd be happier than having Liam
04:10Eichenberg there.
04:11Fine.
04:12I get it.
04:13He's a cheap lineman.
04:15I'm still having a hard time with the Zach Wilson thing.
04:20I really am because I heard Mike McDaniel this week say he was a target of ours.
04:26And the fact that he got one of the highest contracts of all backup quarterbacks to a
04:33guy you might need, but if you play him, your season's probably over anyway, as opposed
04:41to a guy I know they need.
04:45And I don't know Leroy, that just doesn't sit too hot with me.
04:50We did it back to back years.
04:52Like who would, like, I don't care what Van Ginkle's importance is to another team.
04:59Look at what his importance was to this team, which are two Russians hurt.
05:04Yeah.
05:05So like it was even, it was even more spelled out for you with Van Ginkle because of your
05:14injuries.
05:16So the Calais thing, here's one of those situations where I will say this, you have some veterans
05:27on this team and one that there's only probably a couple of guys he respects in the room.
05:38And the one thing Calais Campbell does is garner respect.
05:42That's right.
05:44And that is a guy not only on the field, but you kind of need him in the locker room because
05:54you know everybody in that locker room respects him.
05:58And right now, with where this team is and all of the stuff being floated around about,
06:06you know, how things are run, you need some quality veterans to kind of be the voice of
06:16the coach in the locker room.
06:18That's what Calais Campbell is.
06:20And so while we looking at age and we looking at that, that dude has more importance than
06:29just that.
06:30And I think that is what gets lost.
06:32I just don't, I don't know, man.
06:34It just seems to me like this was one of those where it clearly, you're not going to like
06:42expect him to take the same thing that he took last year when he outperformed his contract
06:45the way that he did.
06:47And it's kind of like, they're like, yeah, a little bump, a little bump, little bump
06:54and, and, and, and maybe get 6 million guaranteed, right?
06:59I just, I don't know, man.
07:01I don't know.
07:02To me, like what's been the win this off season so far, what's been the way we didn't overpay
07:08for someone.
07:09Yeah, but they can't win, but they can't because they have no money.
07:14But the big win is what, that they maybe signed a pro bowler off a torn Achilles.
07:18Who's that?
07:19What's Daniels?
07:20The guard.
07:21Like, is that the big win?
07:22Is the big prize a guy who's looking his way back from a torn Achilles?
07:26I don't know.
07:27Because then if he does ball out and you got to pay him next year, then he'll be gone.
07:33He'll be like, I don't know about his injury past, I don't know, keep him around.
07:37We only signed him.
07:38I just, I don't, I don't, we don't, we don't give them new contracts.
07:41I don't, I don't know what the plan is because you have some guys that you could have just
07:53kept to have some consistency.
07:56And I don't know what the plan is.
07:58I don't know what the plan is, you know, in the near future.
08:01I always tend to wait it out a little bit because at the end of the day, they could
08:08say, we let Van Gunkels go and we got champ.
08:11We got chopped.
08:12Yeah, they did.
08:14Right.
08:15And so I'm going to wait, but I still think so.
08:22So think about this.
08:26It is just when he talked from week to week, you could just tell everybody in that locker
08:34room respected him.
08:35Yeah, we were still hungry.
08:39And there it is.
08:40I'm going to miss that guy.
08:44How are we going to be able to just tell someone, no, we not, we, you know, we are, we hungry,
08:54but we not going to prime 112.
08:58We're going to Outback.
09:02With no blooming onion, no blooming onion.
09:06You're getting the, you're getting the, the marble bread, right?
09:10I mean, like two years ago, they were trading and getting rid of pigs and F those pigs and
09:18all that.
09:20And now we, we shop in that team.
09:23Stun Steve says he was there to protect Tyreek from the police.
09:26Right?
09:27That's true.
09:28Right?
09:29They're like, nah, sorry.
09:30We got to pay Eichenberg 2 million guaranteed.
09:35So he got what?
09:36Five and a half, 6 million.
09:37He got five and a half.
09:38That could be seven and a half.
09:39Okay.
09:40Five and a half guaranteed.
09:41Apparently, I guess, what was it?
09:42The Dolphins are giving them three.
09:43It was like the, the word.
09:46Do you think, I don't know, I could be wrong.
09:48Leroy, do you think he's worth the contract or do you think they drastically overpaid?
09:53I would say a little bit of both, but here's the deal here.
09:57Yeah.
09:59He's worth that contract.
10:00Okay.
10:01That's what I was thinking.
10:02If he would have went and got that deal and then went to the Dolphins and said, here's
10:06what I'm getting.
10:07Can you match it?
10:08Yeah.
10:09He's only getting that.
10:10I would say, yes.
10:11But like, and part of the thing is you're only getting that amount because he's 39.
10:16And so it's an anomaly.
10:17And so everybody's like, oh, well, there's going to be a time where the wheels fall off,
10:21but it didn't.
10:22Last year.
10:23So you say he played like a 28 year old.
10:26If he was 28, then he deserves 20 million for the way that he just played, dude.
10:30Come on.
10:32Yeah.
10:33But you're right.
10:34I am like, well, the wheels are going to fall off.
10:35But they haven't.
10:36I get it.
10:37They haven't yet.
10:38I just think on this team, when some of the guys that you named captain are questionable,
10:50having a guy like him in the locker room can solidify that dynamic of the team because
10:56you have some quality leaders in your locker room.
11:01And I think those are the parts of a franchise that people sometimes overlook, right?
11:09That those three or four guys that, you know, like they go, I don't care about Mike McDaniel,
11:19but that Calais, I want to do right by him.
11:23You need some of those guys in your locker room.
11:25Smith and Schmolnick, who actually, of course, would make this point on everybody's lovable
11:30Calais Campbell counterpoint.
11:32He was already in the locker room that was lost.
11:36I don't like it.
