00:00The build-up to this episode, Seven, I knew it six months earlier, seven, eight months earlier,
00:09I read all of the scripts and I knew what it would take in order to get to that moment,
00:15and it was all building towards that.
00:17Walton Goggins says he waited six months and seven hours to film that highly-anticipated
00:22scene during Sunday's episode of The White Lotus. Warning, major spoilers from The White
00:26Lotus Season 3, Episode 7, ahead.
00:29Goggins told The Hollywood Reporter that the apparent culmination of his anti-hero's journey,
00:33where his character Rick confronts the man he believes killed his father,
00:37wasn't filmed until almost the very end of the Thailand shoot,
00:40and the relief on his face at the end of the episode is as much his own as it is Rick's.
00:44It took me six months and seven hours of this experience to smile, to really smile.
00:58Goggins has not been shy about how difficult The White Lotus shoot was for him.
01:02Rick's reasons for being so surly weren't revealed until the season was halfway done.
01:06It takes until episode four for the audience to really understand the motivations for this guy,
01:11where everybody else's motivations are pretty clear, you know, in episode one.
01:17His motivations were, of course, revenge.
01:19Goggins shared this about filming the scene where Rick confronts Jim, played by Scott Glenn.
01:24Rick is, he's just a lost boy, isn't he? You know, and he's just looking for,
01:30for answers as much as he's looking for revenge. And over the course of that conversation,
01:37predicated on the things that had happened before at The White Lotus, and, you know,
01:45things that he's kind of come in his life, or maybe he was always capable of this transition,
01:49but are reaching this level. But he saw him for who he was. And all of the pain and
01:58all of the power that this man had over me was gone. That there was no boogeyman in the closet
02:11anymore. Rick, of course, decides to spare Jim in that moment. And true to the indulgent spirit
02:16of The White Lotus, the abandoned revenge killing is followed by a Bangkok bender,
02:20with Sam Rockwell's character Frank abandoning his sobriety. And while Frank really lives it up,
02:25it's Rick who looks happiest with the events of the day.
02:28I remember when I was an actor, all of a sudden, you know,
02:3410,000 pounds off my shoulder was lifted. And that smile was so genuine. It was real, you know?
02:48Getting to go through that experience with Sam Rockwell was arguably one of the great times of
03:03my life. The White Lotus will release its season 3 finale on Sunday at 9pm on HBO and Max.
