00:00Detailed plans for Somerset's newest motorway services have been made public ahead of a
00:07major decision later this year.
00:10Sedgmore District Council's Development Committee voted in August 2020 to grant permission to
00:16S Norto Land Ltd to create a new motorway services area in Huntworth Lane, east junction
00:23of 24 of the M5.
00:25The site had failed to come forward for development in the ensuing years, with the relevant legal

00:38the site shortly thereafter.
00:41After the approval of initial infrastructure proposals in February 2023, the company has
00:46now put forward revised plans for the new services, with Somerset Council, which replaced
00:52the District Council in April 2023, expected to make a final ruling later in the year.
00:59The site lies on the eastern side of the Huntworth roundabout, near Bridgewater Lawn Tennis Club
01:06and less than a mile from the existing services.
01:09Welcome Brake currently operates several other services on the M5, including the northbound
01:15Sedgmore services between Junction 22 and 21 and the Gordano services at Bristol at
01:22Junction 19.
01:23Two access points to the new services will be provided, an entry-only slip road off the
01:29Huntworth roundabout and a T junction further along Huntworth Lane, allowing vehicles to
01:36enter and exit.
01:38The new services will include an amenity building, petrol filling station and a drive-thru coffee
01:44shop.
