00:08In the end, the vote was unanimous, with all five judges accepting the charges levelled against

00:13former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. They've ordered him to stand trial for an attempted coup

00:19after his 2022 election defeat. A plot with 33 associates that included poisoning his successor,

00:26current President Lula da Silva, and killing Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes.

00:33There are reasonable indications to accept the indictment from the Attorney General's office,

00:38which identifies Jair Messias Bolsonaro as the leader of the criminal organisation.

00:43In a dossier of nearly 900 pages, investigators also linked Bolsonaro to the January 2023 riot,

00:51when his diehard supporters stormed and trashed the Supreme Court,

00:54Presidential Palace and Congress a week after Lula took office. Bolsonaro could face decades

01:01behind bars if found guilty of the five charges against him in a trial expected later this year.

01:07But the far-right former army captain, who served as president from 2019 to 2022,

01:13has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

01:15It seems to be something personal against me,

01:21and the accusations are very serious and unfounded.

01:27Bolsonaro still insists he will run for president again next year, despite a ruling by the Superior

01:33Electoral Court that barred him from running for public office until 2030, for spreading

01:39misinformation about the country's voting system.
