00:00First, we are starting with some breaking news coming out of Brazil.
00:03The majority of Supreme Court's judges have now voted to convict former President Jair Bolsonaro
00:09of trying to stage a coup after losing the 2022 election to President Lula.
00:15Well, let's cross live to the ground to Rio de Janeiro,
00:18where France 24's correspondent, Tim Vickery, is standing by for us.
00:22Tim, just bring us up to speed with what the judges have decided.
00:25Yes, the fourth judge of the five, Carmen Lucia, is just concluding her votes at the moment.
00:34The score going into yesterday was 2-0 for conviction.
00:38Yesterday, we had a divergent voice from Luis Fux, who spent 13 hours deciding that Bolsonaro should not be convicted.
00:48But Carmen Lucia, we see her there, has emphatically upheld all the charges.
00:53She has voted for Bolsonaro to be convicted on all five charges.
00:58That means that the Supreme Court now has a majority.
01:01There is one judge who will vote after Carmen later on today.
01:06But we now know Jair Bolsonaro is declared guilty on all charges.
01:12Tomorrow, the judges will meet again to decide the penalty, the sentence,
01:18which could be at its maximum, it could be over 40 years.
01:22So this is historic.
01:23Brazil has never done anything like this before, not only to a president, but also to generals.
01:30So this is a historic moment for Brazil.
01:32Jair Bolsonaro and the fellow defendants guilty on all charges.
01:36Tim, thanks so much for bringing us up to speed.
01:39We'll of course be crossing back to Tim Vickery once we get some updates on this developing story.
01:44Bye-bye.
