00:00Everton's form under David Moyes has sparked a sense of optimism, with the team showing
00:07signs of improvement after a rocky start to the season. Moyes, familiar with the club
00:12from his previous spell, has brought stability and a more solid defensive structure to the
00:17team, but questions remain about whether he can lead them to consistent results in the
00:22Premier League. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz has made an impressive start to his time at
00:27Everton. The Argentine midfielder has quickly adapted to the Premier League, contributing
00:32both creatively and defensively. We discuss Everton's progress under Moyes and how Alcaraz
00:38has been received at the Toffees. I spoke to Will Rooney for the latest insights on
00:43the club's current form and prospects moving forward.
00:47Yeah, and obviously if you look at their sort of form, a lot of them late goals, late equalisers,
00:55it seems like they are remaining in games a lot longer under David Moyes. What do you
00:59feel has been the key factor to this turnaround and finding a way not to be beaten? And then
01:04also on top of that, the running is quite tough. You've got obviously the Merseyside
01:08Derby, they play Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Man City, Chelsea, a lot of teams that will
01:15really give David Moyes' side a good test.
01:19Yeah, definitely. I think it's funny because Sean Dicey, as you say, he's the manager
01:26and keeper in games and he did keep Everton in a lot of games as well, but he never fancied
01:31them to score in a lot of the games either. You think of that Brentford one, when Brentford
01:36were down to 10 men, it was poor. I think David Moyes just gave them a little bit more
01:42belief to be honest with you, took the shackles off them a little bit, the full-backs are
01:46getting forward a little bit more and that's having an effect. I know Sean Dicey was absolutely
01:55big on fitness, he did his gaffers, Dave. Maybe just overworked them a little bit potentially
02:00towards the end, I don't know. I'm just speculating here. In terms of Everton's running, as you
02:05say, it's going to be difficult. Arsenal want to keep the pressure on Liverpool, I've got
02:11to bounce back. Nottingham Forest are a tough fixture, isn't it? But then they play the
02:16likes of Southampton, they play Ipswich I think, so a couple of nice fixtures in there
02:21for Everton as well. In the last nine games, 27 points on offer, David Moyes is still insisting
02:29that survival is the first goal. I don't think anyone thinks that Everton are going to go
02:35down whatsoever. But 27 points on offer, how many can we get? Can you get half of that?
02:42Can you get 15? Can you get five wins? Can you get four wins for these draws? I don't
02:47know. But David Moyes will definitely be challenging his players because he's already set a stall
02:54out that this club is not where it should be and he hasn't been afraid to call out some
02:59of the players who aren't quite delivering, like Sir Jack Harris and Jesper Linds from
03:03Everton. He wants more goals from his centre-halves, he wants more assists from Vitaly Mikhalenko.
03:12What he's saying is not unreasonable either because he knows these players are capable
03:18of it. He and all the players will be worried that a big sun has come at Everton, so can
03:25they show that they can be a part of Everton's future going into the new stadium?
03:32And Will, just on Everton and Carlos Alcaraz obviously coming in in the January window now,
03:40we've mentioned the big summer ahead. What do you feel is going to be his impact and
03:46how well he's been received among the Everton supporters?
03:51I think he's done as well as you could have expected really. He's a player who's been
04:00around a few clubs already. He's fairly young. Some big clubs as well. He came to Southampton
04:09but went on loan to Juventus when he was in the Championship for Southampton, which shows
04:13how high he's rated. Then he went back to Brazil with Flamenco and he's come back to
04:21the Premier League. From the outset in games, can you go and do it? Can you get two more
04:27goals, two more assists? David Moyes isn't afraid to challenge these players because
04:35his demands are high. Alcaraz, he's done well but I think there's definitely more to come from him.
