00:00A $1.5 million juvenile, Cornish rose to the high expectations set before him during his
00:08undefeated two-year-old season that culminated with a win in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
00:13New to stud in 2023, the speedy son of Quality Road seems to have many of the factors that
00:18breeders are looking for, and he's drawing a crowd at Ashford Stud.
00:23When you look at Cornish, the first thing that comes to mind is certainly in my mind
00:27is speed.
00:28He's very like his sire, Quality Road, who obviously needs no introduction, is one of
00:32the best sires standing at stud in the world today.
00:35But Cornish, you look at him, you think Quality Road and you think speed.
00:40When a horse brings $1.5 million at a tier one train sale, that means he stood out immensely
00:46and that's what he looked like.
00:48He worked beautifully, the way he moves, his efficiency, his stride, plus he has the pedigree
00:54to back it up.
00:55He's by one of the hottest sires.
00:57He's the kind of horse that could run on turf or dirt.
01:00He was a very high-priced juvenile at OBS, costing Speedway Stables $1.5 million, out
01:08of a very good race mare, Wasted Tears, by Najran, who was a very good race mare in her
01:11own right.
01:12She was a multiple grade two winner on the track.
01:14He's very well-bred from a good race horse family.
01:17And he tore up the track down at O'Connell and then went on to break his maiden by widening
01:24five and a half lengths and then went on to become, obviously, an Eclipse Award-winning
01:27two-year-old.
01:28So, the first thing you think about, he's all speed.
01:31He tipped us off early in his career that he was brilliant.
01:36He showed brilliance early and that's why he was undefeated as a two-year-old.
01:42I didn't have anything that could get close to him in the mornings.
01:45You could tell that he was in a different area of code than anybody else as a two-year-old
01:49and that's what I love about him.
01:51I think in any stallion's career, we always look to the Breeders' Cup.
01:54I don't think we'll ever forget the display Cornish put on in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile
01:59that year.
02:00He overcame a very wide draw.
02:02I mean, he was favoured going into the race.
02:04He was the grade one winner, had been a grade one winner before that in winning the American
02:07Pharaoh.
02:08But, Dan Del Mar, people were saying, would he be able to overcome this wide draw?
02:14Well, he left us under no illusion who the best horse was on that day as he romped to
02:20a juvenile championship.
02:35What I love about Cornish is that he was very handy and there was no bottom to him.
02:42I love that he has a beautiful neck and shoulder and his hind end, perfectly balanced.
02:47He wasn't too big.
02:48He was just the right size and just got over the ground really easily.
02:53I can't see a miss here with this horse.
02:56He's got it.
02:57He's got it here.
02:58He's been very popular.
02:59I mean, I think everyone wants two-year-old speed and people want to get to the races
03:01early and that's the greatest selling point of any stallion.
03:05I think horses like Cornish offer that.
03:08They're the ones that will get you to the races early and hopefully get you on the race
03:11track and on the big stage.
