00:00Chapel Stud is making a name for itself as a stud farm and stallion operation, with Plantor
00:07being the sire of staying star Trushan.
00:09Roisin Close, who owns and manages the stud, tells us about the farm and new horse and
00:14son of Australia, Bangkok.
00:17Chapel Stud is actually an extension or a following on from Butlin's farm, which I had
00:25for 13 years.
00:27We outgrew the farm, so we needed to find a new premises and we found a farm about half
00:34an hour north of where Butlin's was, and we just thought, new chapter, new everything.
00:40I've got Plantor, who is standing his second season this year with me.
00:45He was purchased by Simon Davis of Welsh Marches Stud, and since he bought him, almost anything
00:52that can go right for that horse has gone right.
00:55Trushan is a multiple group one winner now, a champion, he's had another group two winner
01:00this year, another listed winner.
01:03Just shy of 58% winners to runners, I mean he literally can do no wrong, coupled with
01:09the fact he's just a fantastic looking horse with a great pedigree.
01:12So adding to him this year is the Volsertact, who again was purchased by Simon to complement
01:21the national hunt arm, if you like, of the stud.
01:24And again, he's a beautiful quality horse, but a much more typical national hunt stamp
01:30of a stallion.
01:32So that also brings the third one in, Bangkok.
01:35He was purchased by Sackville-Donald for King Power Racing as a yearling for 500,000 guineas,
01:41so that tells you pedigree and looks, et cetera, are all there.
01:45He's a very attractive quality son of Australia, out of effectively a blue hen mare.
01:54He's a proper dual-purpose stallion.
01:58He's run over seven furlongs, he's run mile and a quarter.
02:02He won his group two at the York Stakes over a mile or two.
02:08He's tough and consistent, he ran on the all-weather, he won the winter derby trial.
02:15He's run in different countries, different continents, he's been everywhere.
02:18I mean, temperament to the fore, without question.
02:22And Andrew Balding, who trained him, said, tough, sound, consistent with the stallion's
02:28pedigree.
02:29And that's all you need to know, and he's absolutely the type of horse that people should
02:33be embracing to breed racehorses.
02:35We will offer a bonus to breeders, so anyone that breeds a two-year-old winner in his first
02:42crop can have a free return.
02:44The first black-type two-year-old winner get a £25,000 bonus split between owner, trainer,
02:50breeder.
02:51Because we just think this horse should have that opportunity, and he deserves it.
02:55So yeah, we're really excited.
02:57He's got some cracking mares booked in.
02:59King Power are sending mares to Balding, Simon of course, and a lot of other astute breeders
03:05have booked mares in.
03:06And then we have a couple of flat stallions in Indian Haven, who I stand on behalf of
03:13Susie Pritchard-Jones, and he is one of the few remaining sons of the Bialy Turk line,
03:20so stallion sons.
03:23And then the apple of my eye, Helvellyn, who's 18 this year, looks fantastic, he's loving
03:29life.
03:30He kind of started it all off for me at Bucklands Farm, and kind of probably got me where I
03:36am now.
03:37And he's just amazing.
03:38You know, he continues to produce winners.
03:41He looks like he's turning into a really exciting broodmare sire.
03:44He's really quite a special horse.
03:47The farm is amazing.
03:48I absolutely love what I do, and I don't think you can do this if you don't love it.
03:53It's a lifestyle, a way of life, or whatever you want to call it, a vocation.
03:58And I'm so lucky, along the way, from the Tween Hill days, or even before that, when
04:04I first started, I was in America at TaylorMade, everyone has supported me and backed me and
04:09allowed me to get where I am, and that includes people I've worked for, people I've worked
04:13alongside, my family, my friends, and have kind of allowed me to get where I am.
04:20It's an amazing business to be in, and I'm really lucky that I've got a great team that
04:25help me on and off the farm, so that makes it possible.
04:30It wouldn't be possible without it.
