Although George Weaver has seen success on the international stage from Royal Ascot to Dubai, a Breeders' Cup victory had eluded him for 23 years of training. He finally reached his breakthrough when Cy Fair beat the boys in the 2026 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
Transcript
00:01They're off in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
00:04Brussels slow to begin.
00:06Cypher, three-quarters of a length behind.
00:08Obliteration is down toward the inside.
00:10Cypher!
00:11Cypher has it close to home from Brussels.
00:14Cypher's a Breeders' Cup winner!
00:20Winning the Breeders' Cup as a trainer, I guess, is justification.
00:25If you don't get the ability to work with, you know, that caliber of horse
00:29or one that can take you there, you know, it doesn't take long
00:32for people to kind of label you as, okay, well, they, you know,
00:37they're a good trainer, but they're not for the big horse.
00:44Well, I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and my mom and dad took me to the races
00:47when I was a baby, but, you know, I wasn't born in the game.
00:50I got lucky enough to be educated underneath Todd Pletcher and Wayne Lucas.
00:55It's a game of perseverance. You just have to stick with it.
00:58At the time when we went on our own, you know, we had a handful of horses
01:03and working hard, you know, it's just, I think that's, when it boils down to it,
01:07you've got to work hard to be successful in this game.
01:11It's Saratoga County to win the game!
01:13We'll always be in love with Saratoga County.
01:15Obviously, Vekoma and Point of Honor were good.
01:18Sacred Wish, Doris Vader recently last year, and our trip to Ascot with Crimson Advocate.
01:23Crimson Advocate with a clear advantage, but here is Relief Rally and Tom Mark Bond
01:28coming towards the line. It's very tight.
01:31Crimson Advocate...
01:31The Triple Crown races, the Travers, and the Breeders' Cup races,
01:36which are championship races at the end of the year, those are, like, biggies.
01:40My first Breeders' Cup course was Summer of Fun for Bonaventure Stables.
01:44He ran a beautiful race to finish third that day, and it was big, you know,
01:48big for me, being a newbie to the Breeders' Cup.
01:51And Vekoma is pouring it on in the stretch.
01:54He really loved the slop in this grade one run-happy corner.
01:58Vekoma's such a talented horse.
02:00The timing was shaping up perfect for him.
02:03He got a fever, and we had to withdraw, which, it really broke all of our hearts.
02:07I'm very confident he would have won that race that day,
02:10and it just wasn't meant to be.
02:13They're off in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
02:16It doesn't really happen very often this way,
02:18but in Cypher's Breeders' Cup, I was very happy the whole way.
02:23It was going perfectly.
02:24It was right where I wanted it to be, and you could tell he was loaded the whole way.
02:28So, it, like, it doesn't happen very often in racing, but it did that day for her.
02:34Cypher has it close to home from Brussels.
02:37Cypher's a Breeders' Cup winner!
02:39I turned to Cindy first and gave her a big hug and kiss,
02:42and then we all started shuffling down trying to get to the winner's circle.
02:46It's so hard to explain to somebody that doesn't know horse racing that feeling.
02:51When you win, and the end of winning a race of that caliber, how much goes into it,
02:56like, it just, a lot of things flash through your mind about, you know,
03:00your career, and what the filly has done for us.
03:04It's a moment of celebration, you know, the memories of a lifetime, really.
03:08It just means everything. It means everything.
03:12We gave Cypher a break after the Breeders' Cup.
03:15Well-deserved break.
03:17She tack-walked for a while, and we got her back going.
03:19She's had three breezes back since.
03:21She's doing excellent, and we are looking at the race at Keeneland.
03:25The limestone.
03:26It's on April 10th at Keeneland.
03:28I just love horses.
03:30I feel lucky because I chose to do this when I was young,
03:35and I never really had a doubt about it.
03:37You know, I love the action.
03:38I love winning.
03:40I love watching horses develop.
03:42You know, it's kind of crazy.
03:43We get to come out every morning, be outside with horses.
03:47I mean, why not?
03:49What else would you want to do?
03:58We'll be back.
03:59We'll be back.
03:59We'll be back.
04:00We'll be back.
04:00We'll be back.
