00:00but let's not waste time let's get to the rude guest hotline of it ain't rude it ain't right
00:04and talk to our guy albert brier si and mmqb so i saw an attribution to you albert and i wanted to
00:10get you on to ask about this today that you've been told the commanders offered ronnie stanley
00:15the left tackle who signed with the ravens for 20 million a year 24 per and he stayed in baltimore
00:22for less money what can you tell us about that well i i can tell you that obviously it couldn't
00:27officially make an offer but um you know i know a couple teams were 24 or more or were over 24
00:35million per um yeah i think the commanders and the commanders and the patriots were were two of
00:40the teams that were there um the chiefs i think were a little bit closer to where the ravens were
00:46um at about 20 million per and these things sort of get around over the course of a couple weeks
00:50leading up to free agency so that's all it is i mean i think um you know again like the commanders
00:56and pagers were were planning pretty big swings at um at ronnie stanley so you know they sort of
01:03got left where they got left there um after after um you know ronnie makes the decision to stay in
01:09baltimore and then they they turn around and they're able to get their left tackle and let
01:13her be done i mean it's obviously a great culture in baltimore something you're hoping to change
01:18around here in dc it's something we talked about after the season they had last year if the
01:22perception around here has changed that guys wouldn't come play here do you feel like that
01:26has changed is this just a case that stanley wanted to stay put or was it something that he
01:30was still a little bit miffed at what washington is i think stanley and chris godwin are sort of
01:36similar in the sense that like they're both third contract guys right and like they both have made
01:42a lot of money and when you already have a lot of money in the bank doesn't mean you're not still
01:47chasing the next dollar you are i think you always are to some degree um you know but you
01:54might be willing to to give up a little bit because you've already made some money you know
01:59so i think that's probably what it was you know and it's not like i haven't talked to him directly
02:04about this i think that's probably part of it for for ronnie is you know he's got a comfortable
02:09situation in baltimore um they've been really good they're going to continue to be really good
02:14um and you know like as being able to stay at the number he's able to stay at he can trust that
02:20they're going to be able to take the savings there off of what he may be may have been able
02:24to make in a washington or a new england and make the team around him better so um you know really
02:30i don't think it's it's any knock on anyone else it was just he's got a good situation he's made a
02:35lot of money and so if it meant taking a little bit less i think he was willing to take a little
02:40bit less to stay in that good situation that's it i mean i think washington is a very attractive
02:46destination for teams right now i don't think there's any question about that albert brier
02:50senior nfl reporter and lead content strategist at the mmqb so what they ended up doing at left
02:56tackle is actually maybe even better in terms of production but man did they pay a lot right laramie
03:02tonsil and i mean comparatively speaking they give up a two or three and a four with a seven
03:07over the next two drafts they did get a four back to help cushion the blow and then they get tonsil
03:12at 21 per against the cap for the next couple of years he'll probably want an extension after this
03:17season presumably but if you if you would have gotten stanley in this hypothetical at 24 and
03:24kept all your picks i would have taken that i do think tonsil is a better player but i want to get
03:29your thoughts on you know what they tried to do and what they ended up having to do because
03:33peters who works in the shadows seem to go outside the box here yeah and i think it's like a
03:38honestly um you know i i think it's sort of reflective of how hard it is to fill that
03:44position if you don't have one you see what the what the chief said to do which was
03:49bring in a guy who wasn't ever a full-time starter in san francisco at 50 at 15 million
03:55dollars a year dan moore who was you know about to be replaced in pittsburgh got 21 million a year
04:01in tennessee so i like just it's a supply and demand thing and that's one position where it's
04:07just really really hard to find a guy who can be your long-term answer and it's rare that they
04:13become available so i think that the fact that they were able to get them at the price they were
04:17able to get them out was actually pretty good i think it's if you do like the graph value chart
04:22whatever it winds up equating to it winds up equating to a low first round pick what they
04:26were what they gave up to get them um and the opportunities present present the opportunity
04:32presented itself because of some stuff that happened in houston but i don't think he's a
04:36bad guy like i think he'll come in and as long as you have the right culture around him he'll be
04:41fine um you know it's a little bit like trent williams and and you guys can obviously relate
04:46to this where there were a ton of questions about trent when he was in washington right
04:51and you know then he gets to san francisco you know you know we we haven't heard anything bad
04:56about trent williams you know so i think if you're adam peters you sort of look at your
05:00own experience having gone through that san francisco where you traded for trent williams
05:05in early 2020 and um trent's going on uh you know six years now of all pro play out there and
05:12and in a really good environment you know now that the pit commanders have that sort of environment
05:18um you know i think it gives them the freedom to to take swings on opportunities like this
05:23with guys that like i mean hey you know look like again like not a bad guy but might not be the
05:29leader of your program when you bring them in what have you made of their moves overall so far
05:35in free agency some trades that they've made i've probably been fine which is about everything
05:39they've done except for maybe 15 million a year for kin law but what what's your take on what
05:44they've done so far yeah i mean i think the kin law thing is again like just sort of a guy who you
05:49view as a scheme fit you know and a very specific role you're going to have for him and um you know
05:54he hasn't lived up to his his his where he was drafted of course but um he's still a good player
06:00you know and you have an idea of what you're going to get from him which is you know sort of the way
06:04that they built the team last year and bringing all the guys that they had background with and
06:09you know i don't need to go through everything for you guys you guys know all the names um but i
06:14think it's another one of those you know what i mean like where um you you you do have an idea
06:19of what you're getting because adam peters was with the guy before and has experience and it
06:24there is some system familiarity there um and what kin law has done in the past outside of that like i
06:31i think you know this is a good um good example what the what the commanders have done it goes
06:36back to you know november when they traded for for latimore which was really a move for 2025
06:42more than it was a move for 2024 um you're bringing in guys at premium positions in
06:48latimore and debo and laramie council um and that happens because you did a good job in year one
06:55under adam peters and dan quinn and and building the roster up and creating an environment where
07:01you don't have to press needs now you know so when an opportunity comes along you are
07:06loose enough to be able to take a swing on a guy like this you know it's i think if they don't
07:11draft as well as they did last year and and and beyond just jayden being able to get um a brandon
07:17coleman a mikey sanders still uh um you know a uh you know johnny newton who they think is going to
07:24be something uh luke mcafree it does give you the freedom to to take more chances and to do
07:31to do different things with some of your draft picks because you don't need
07:35you know the the margin for error where you've got 10 or 12 picks and you need to fill five
07:39positions um with starters albert brier getting us up to speed on the commanders as we are now
07:45about an hour and 20 minutes away from the official league year start oh yeah
07:49any more shelves are already there i think i was gonna say i don't even know if that means
07:53anything anymore but we're an hour and 20 minutes out uh before we let you go we only have about 30
07:57seconds but i just want to get your thoughts really quickly as best you can sum it up
08:01is trey hendrickson still an option for washington and what would that market look like
08:06yeah i mean i the the the bengals want a one um but i don't think the one's going to be out
08:12there for him because he's 31 years old and um he's going to require a new contract so i i still
08:18don't think they would move them for anything less than a two though so you have to make that
08:22determination if you're washington where you know you've already you know i mean i i can't i don't
08:28have it in front of me but they got what a one a two a four uh six and a seven or something like
08:34that right yeah right so like you know you're looking at it if you're them and you're saying
08:39do i really want to deplete myself for another draft pick i i think that's a that's a question
08:44and i think the other thing about it is you know if you are the commanders you know you're you're
08:50probably looking at it and saying there's a really deep draft um at that position so we could we
08:55could draft guys with our first two picks and potentially hit on starting level players at
09:00that position at a much cheaper rate than than than flipping the two for Hendrickson so i think
09:05it's something to consider um but you know i think there's a there's a case to be made for
09:10just drafting and developing your own at that position too based on what's in the draft class
09:14albert always appreciate your insight thanks for the time man awesome thanks guys be good
09:18there's albert brier si and mmqb on grant and danny here on the fan
