The Washington Commanders Would Be PERFECT For Hard Knocks

The NFL has changed its rules surrounding Hard Knocks, and we want your Commanders to be on it!

00:00I wanted to bring up something that did not make the show yesterday against my better

00:05judgment.

00:06All I've ever wanted in my life, one of my great goals as a sports fan before I die,

00:14Danny who is to see the Washington commanders beyond hard knocks on HBO.

00:22That's all I want.

00:23I want to see my team on hard knocks.

00:25I want to see my GM and my coach debating the roster.

00:29I want the magnets on the white board behind Dan Quinn to show the linebacker position

00:36and how they view it.

00:37I want to get that inside intel that I'm not supposed to have because the cameras are showing

00:40me more than they generally would.

00:43I want to see the interactions between Cliff Kingsbury and Dan Quinn and Cliff Kingsbury

00:48and position coach to be named later.

00:51I want the story about the Johnny come lately, little engine who could, Richmond flowers

00:58isn't supposed to be here but maybe he'll make the team for the Cowboys this time.

01:02I want that to be the guy that makes the catch in the Washington's preseason game and it's

01:06never happened because mostly they've never really had interest and more often than not,

01:10they are not eligible.

01:12Danny some rules were changed by the National Football League yesterday and the rules that

01:17they have changed make it easier for them to force teams to do hard knocks.

01:24There are more teams eligible than were because clearly teams do not want to do this.

01:28They keep having to basically loosen the restrictions like, Hey, if you satisfy any

01:33of these requirements, you don't have to do hard knocks, but that list is getting smaller

01:38and smaller and smaller.

01:40So the NFL changed and I say all this to tell you, Washington is very much an option this

01:45year.

01:46But what do you think of this?

01:47So these are now the rule changes that will allow for teams to do hard knocks that maybe

01:55couldn't opt out.

01:58Teams don't have to do it.

02:00If they were featured on the training camp edition of hard knocks in any of the previous

02:05eight seasons.

02:07So if you have been the team chosen for the OG training camp, hard knocks over the last

02:12eight iterations, you can get out.

02:14I think that's reasonable because I shouldn't have to do it multiple times, but you could

02:18want to and you could do as many times you want, but this is the, Hey man, we've already

02:22done this once.

02:23Let's not.

02:24There's only about 24 teams that could do it, right?

02:26Number two teams do not have to be on the show if they have a first year head coach.

02:31I like that too.

02:32Makes sense to me.

02:33You were terrible last year.

02:34You bottomed out.

02:36Someone's trying to set a culture.

02:37We don't need a bunch of cameras looking under the hood and seeing what we're all about when

02:40we don't even, we haven't even built the engine yet.

02:42Right?

02:43No problem.

02:44So that is generally right around four to six other teams.

02:46This year it's about a half dozen teams or so that also don't have to do it.

02:50So now we are up to right around 14 teams, right?

02:54Half the league is still eligible.

02:55A little more than that.

02:57If not exempt from selection based on club participation in hard knocks on a similar

03:02access show prior to the 2024 pursuant parameters that existed at the time of such clubs prior

03:08participation.

03:09So what is this?

03:10That's an easy sentence to say.

03:11Yes.

03:12Here's what this means.

03:14Are you on another all access show that the league is producing in some capacity that

03:19could be the hard knocks off Steve's and if they were to bring it back, that could

03:22be the hard knocks in season because they're doing it now by division with 14.

03:27So like let's say they pick the NFC East this year.

03:29You'll know that in advance.

03:30We don't know yet, but the league will put that out and then you could say, look, I'm

03:34not doing training camp.

03:35You guys are going to be here all season.

03:36So assuming it's not the NFC East, that means Washington very much an option.

03:42And what we're looking at is 20 possible teams to include in the NFC East, your commanders

03:48with the Eagles and the Giants who would be eligible.

03:52Assuming NFC East is not the featured division, which, by the way, if that happens, it's still

03:56cool because I still feel good.

03:57Might even be better, honestly, because I get in season hard knocks now and you're sharing

04:01the spotlight with three teams, which is a bummer.

04:04But beggars can't be choosers here.

04:06It's yeah, that in season was actually really, really cool.

04:08My favorite thing that they would do is when opponents in the division were playing each

04:13other and they would kind of go back and forth between those meetings where it's like, we're

04:18going to have to deal with with Jamar Chase.

04:20How do we stop Jamar Chase?

04:21And then they cut the Cincinnati goal.

04:23We're going to have to deal with, well, what nobody on Pittsburgh, we don't have to deal

04:26with it.

04:27I thought that stuff was so cool and, you know, kind of showed you the way preparation

04:31happened.

04:32I was into that.

04:33That'd be cool for the NFC East as well.

04:34You get at least 25 percent of that shine.

04:36I think this ownership group is smart.

04:38That's that's where I'm starting.

04:40That's my premise here.

04:41I think they're smart enough to know that this would be the best thing they could do.

04:48I'm not, I'm not even hyperbolic.

04:51This would be the best thing they could do.

04:53They've got their people where they want them now.

04:55Right.

04:56There was a, there was a cleansing that had to take place.

04:57There were some guys or gals that was doing a contract and slowly but surely they got

05:01their business guy.

05:02And now they got their, uh, you know, uh, this administrator, this guy selling this,

05:06this guy doing that.

05:07The house is cleaned up.

05:08You're still dealing with the worst stadium in sports.

05:10But everyone knows it's not their fault.

05:12There is so much to be featured either.

05:13Yeah.

05:14And there's, well, maybe there's a preseason game that nubs field, but they're not taking

05:19away from the show to go.

05:20Do you guys know how terrible this stadium is by the way?

05:22Look at this leak.

05:23I mean, it's not, it's irrelevant that your stadium stinks.

05:26Make yourself cool again is the point that, and that is the point.

05:29So yeah, I was, I was glossing over the point is the, they could showcase themselves in

05:35a way, not to say we're back, but this is, this is so new.

05:40This is so much better than it was.

05:41And then the show would do a really good job of this acknowledging, look at where they,

05:44look where they just came from.

05:46Look at how incompetent, how stupid, look at how there's no first round picks from the

05:50previous regime on this roster.

05:51Look at all the incompetence, all the investigations, look at all the nonsense that took place.

05:56And they went to the NFC title game last year and they've got a belief internally.

05:59This would be the best winsome fans locally, nationally, everywhere else move.

06:06They could make the best singular move they could make right now before this year.

06:11I think the national interest in the commanders in the sense of a show like this was just

06:16not high enough.

06:18It was too low now with Jaden Daniels has a superstar with this team, having gotten

06:25to the NFC championship game.

06:27Come on.

06:29I think California, Texas, Florida, I think it plays right.

06:35In a way that it has not probably since the Gibbs Superbowl years, honestly, if you were

06:41doing a Q rating on just every team in the NFL, whether that's by interest and or excitement

06:51level, popularity, likeability, they're the highest they've been.

06:55We talk about the only real quantifiable thing that we have is the listing from the NFL PA

07:01on how good it is to work for Washington.

07:04Where do they rank among teams that you'd want to play for?

07:06They were 32nd for a couple straight years before this year, which is really year one

07:11with this ownership group having their fingerprints on this thing with Adam Peters.

07:14They went up to just outside the top 10, 11.

07:17That's quantifiable.

07:19From a national fan perspective, Jaden Daniels is an it guy.

07:22He's cool.

07:23Now, I'm not sitting here telling you the chiefs with Taylor Swift, Kiston Travis, Kelsey

07:28on the sideline on family day at training camp or whatever wouldn't be better.

07:33With their Superbowl rings, with my homes as the quarterback in the league, with Kelsey

07:36as one of the biggest stars in the league.

07:39I understand that they're probably not number one, but they're not that low on that list

07:43either.

07:44This is the best chance I've ever had, Danny.

07:47This is it.

07:48This is my shot.

07:49This is the best chance I've had to get my hard knock series for this football.

07:53I tend to agree with you because now if you get like last year, Houston would have been

07:57where Washington is now, right?

07:59Houston with the quarterback that took the league by storm, that everybody's darling

08:03with a new head coach that everyone loves, and D'Amico Ryan's a company.

08:07They jumped up, won a playoff game after being terrible for a long time before and being

08:11frankly one of the disgraces of the league.

08:14Houston was kind of that sexy team.

08:15What can happen with a relatively disappointing season, even though Houston, by the way, went

08:19to the playoffs, won a game, but it wasn't what everyone thought.

08:22Everyone thought they were going to be up there competing with the chiefs and the Bills

08:24and company.

08:25They just weren't that good.

08:26The shine can wear off a little bit.

08:28We'll move on to that.

08:30You and I, we're here.

08:31We love Jaden Daniels and the team nationally.

08:33That window can close and through nobody's fault, your football happens, right?

08:38This is the hottest the iron is going to be is right now.

08:42It is time to strike.

08:43If you're trying to squeeze as many drops out of commander's fame and commander's interest

08:49as a league, as you can now, if they were to win the Super Bowl, it would skyrocket.

08:53But the odds are, I would say are against that in year two for Jaden Daniels.

08:57But the shift in rules, making it a little more likely for Washington to be that team

09:02on hard knocks.
