00:00um standing how are you dude what's going on um i'm doing uh great thanks for having me on fellas
00:05what's happening man yeah dude um i don't know if you were listening to the program
00:09but we didn't even ask for callers and we had a dude call in with like i thought he almost
00:15cried
00:16the most passionate draft take i think i've ever heard about the draft and this guy really really
00:22wants jeremiah love to be drafted by washington with the seventh overall pick um in your podcast
00:29and writing and social media have you found jeremiah love to be the preferred pick of
00:35commanders fans yeah i think so for the most part i mean look obviously he's very talented some people
00:43think he would be the best player in the draft but it's also like you know even if we said
00:47the
00:48best player in the draft was a offensive lineman nobody would be like oh we got to get that guy
00:52it's you know the running back is the fun thing it's a fantasy uh football thing the highlight thing
00:58so you know i get it and look this offense needs something like that they need more um pop more
01:05playmaking ideally would probably be that second receiver spot but hey if this is the best guy and
01:11he's also you know not just a running back he's really effective as a pass catcher it wouldn't be
01:16like my ideal choice but i understand why people want that yeah i just look at it like i look
01:22i look
01:23beyond just this year and i look at contracts of receivers moving forward i think getting a receiver
01:31top-notch receiver moving forward would be more vital because if you have jeremiah love and then you
01:37don't have top-notch receivers moving forward you're gonna have people that's putting eight people in
01:42the box and we'll see what he's capable of this is not syracuse our defense in the nfl
01:49yeah i mean ideally the receiver makes sense for a lot of reasons like you said if if you know
01:56if
01:56you pick somebody at seven who turns into a pro bowl level player you know those players are making
02:01you know 30 million dollars what did you i mean jackson thrift and jig was obviously top of the
02:05market but he just yeah he went over 40 so the numbers you know it's a huge huge number and
02:10you're
02:10saving good money if you're having somebody in a rookie contract or running back that you know the
02:15high-end contractor just is not that impressive from a money standpoint so you're not saving a ton
02:19there um and you know you still you have bill you have rashad white you know i'm not saying you
02:26couldn't improve on that but that's nothing that's a effective enough backfield to to worry about other
02:32places but again and this is a weird draft with you know when when a running back a safety or
02:37an
02:37off-ball linebacker are like three of the top handful of guys and it's hard to justify not taking them
02:44because they're good then you know i think sort of like all bets are off to a degree and you
02:49know
02:49if the running back in this case is the best guy i i wouldn't i i feel more comfortable saying
02:54go ahead
02:55and do it than i would probably most years it's interesting too because if it's styles or downs
03:02kind of to your point like the positional value in the modern nfl structure isn't necessarily there
03:08but if they're the best player take the best player um specifically with love i i know you
03:14pretty well and i know how much one i mean you're in it in the in the conversation with agents
03:20and how
03:21people try to shape narratives and two i know you also study media on like kind of the national
03:25landscape and like what do you make of shefter now saying a few different times man jeremiah love
03:33would fit well in washington and saying a few different times the giants and the titans are out on them
03:40yeah i saw his uh video yesterday and obviously preface with preface with it today i mean again
03:46you know the running back is not an ideal pick for what you want to do in terms of roster
03:52building it's
03:52just not typically a core position you can you know generally fill that in um you know i'm not
03:58being talented players but you can kind of fill that in a little bit easier than some other spots so
04:02you know the titans need more weapons for cam ward but maybe that's a receiver or maybe they just go
04:08with the defense to give robert sala uh another piece the giants i mean you know they have cam
04:13scadaboo and tyro and tracy you know somewhat you know comparable to the backfield here so you don't
04:17really need a running back they do they could use another offensive weapon but you know they may be
04:23better off taking sunny styles for that defense so in cleveland they drafted quench on judkins last year
04:29so to me it feels like if love gets past the titans that washington feels like the the backstop
04:37and in part and this is this speculation but the fact that the saints and the chiefs picking eight
04:42nine both went out and signed um big time running back so it felt like before free agency that they
04:48might be the team where he lands i don't know if that's a sign that they think he's not getting
04:52to
04:52them and if that is the case then maybe there's a strong thinking that washington like i said is
04:57is the backstop but um you know if he's there i could said the way that because of how they
05:03did
05:04for agency i i just don't know that i'm going to be like well i have to take this other
05:07position
05:07instead um i don't feel that way so yeah i i would i get why she after might be hinting
05:13at that because
05:14i think logically it makes sense well i also look at the fact that the cleveland browns pick
05:18at six he never mentioned that thing uh and you know me i i i sometimes oh i think a
05:25little
05:26different you don't think cleveland could be wanting that out there because somebody might run up to six
05:30and say washington want him at seven we want him at six let me make a trade with you right
05:35here come
05:36on up a little bit um i just you know again this is not a position where i don't think
05:41people would
05:42trade up and then again if you look at like where who would be trading up you know the teams
05:46eight nine
05:46and ten none of them need a running back oh the dolphins at 11 have h and dallas at 12
05:52just
05:52signed javante like i don't know that anybody's trading up for for a running back uh but uh you
05:58know and sure look anything anything is possible cleveland has two first round picks plus some others
06:04maybe they just said the heck with it we can fill a need with our second first round pick let's
06:08go
06:08nutty with love but you know if we're just thinking somewhat logical they drafted a good running back
06:14last year they of course have a thousand holes and you know they they're looking at offensive
06:19tackle or receiver feels like the best bet for them more than running back so i wouldn't think so
06:24but again you know anything is possible in a year where i just don't think the top of the draft
06:29is viewed that strongly so people might be willing to be a little more unconventional
06:33than just simply saying okay these are the typical positions you take here because the talent
06:38maybe isn't there compared uh to guys like love talking with our friend ben standing here on the
06:44rude guest hotline rude makes the most reliable hvac systems in the dmv you give benny a follow at
06:51ben standing on tiktok as well as twitter and instagram ben ben's a very active tiktoker brian did
06:57you know that i didn't know that he's always doing the dances and stuff um yeah let me know man
07:02ben i'm gonna follow you dog when you do the tiktok dances yeah yeah i'm showing a lot of rhythm
07:09there no doubt you can also check out his sub stack lastmanstandic.com um you just dropped i think
07:16yesterday dropped a new mock draft what's your what's your top 10 look like and do you have love going
07:22to washington so i this was a little bit of a of a weird one in that i you know
07:30i decided i let's
07:31look at the trade down scenarios we keep talking about it that washington needs more picks so what
07:36would that look like so the whole front of the story is about that what scenarios are available
07:40and i felt like after i did that i couldn't then just not do a trade so i did i
07:45did one of these
07:46trades which ended up taking love of out of the equation i also had him going to the titans but
07:52that
07:52was in part in order to do this exercise because i said in the story that if love or styles
07:57were there
07:57i wouldn't trade out everybody else i would at least consider it so i had love going for for
08:02this exercise in the previous one i did i did have love going to washington at seven um like i
08:08said it's
08:09just for me it's just where do the titans what do they think they need to do if it's getting
08:14help for
08:14their young quarterback then i think love is the guy over any of the receivers but if they decide to
08:20be more conventional then i feel like love um love can get to a washington i think the other key
08:26if we're talking about for washington just in general uh the cardinals at three i've got them
08:32taking uh miami offensive lineman francis maui noah uh that is a pick where based on purely like best
08:39available i don't know that he would be the third guy in the draft but in terms of the position
08:44you
08:45get to the end of the first round and there's probably not any more tackles that are worthy of
08:50being picked that high so i think if you're the cardinals you know if you really want that you
08:54have to take one there or risk you're not going to get one and i think the same thing with
08:58cleveland
08:59at six so if both teams take offensive linemen then you know now you're basically guaranteed to
09:04get some combination of uh love styles uh bane uh uh caleb downs you can still probably get one or
09:14two of those guys if they don't if the if the offensive linemen don't go but that's but that would
09:18be the one fear you just want the offensive linemen to go early that'll help washington
09:23um certainly and do you think there's any chance what do you the ty simpson stuff i i feel like
09:31we're just going to start hearing crazy stuff and it's that time of year like i i just i don't
09:37see
09:37ty simpson getting anywhere close you know what i mean um maybe he goes first round but like you don't
09:45think there's some crazy i don't know when bama's pro day is or what but like i i don't believe
09:51there is a
10:04well look i did not have any idea who ty simpson was i'm watching some alabama game going who is
10:09this guy he was like really impressive and then it so it didn't surprise me when he started getting
10:13a lot of hype but then it faded over the you know remainder of the season he was so so
10:18in the
10:19playoffs it's just a matter of desperation though right i mean if you're you know we all understand
10:24how this game works if you're a team that needs a quarterback you don't have too many options and
10:29at some point you know you used to take a shot is he's a guy to take a shot on
10:33you know that that
10:35that's the um that's the rub but by the way like you know when we talk about teams in front
10:41offices
10:41they do a good job they do a bad job there's so much of it is just incredible luck as
10:46an example
10:47in 2024 if you pick second and third you got jayden daniels and drake may here the team's picking
10:53second and third need a quarterback and there's nobody there after the first guy so you know it's
10:58you know the same positions and you just have no luck that's just how it goes sometimes if adam
11:03peters doesn't get doesn't come in that year when when it's jayden sitting there you know then we're
11:09all going where's the quarterback sometimes it just works out your way we'll see man um let's go back
11:15to kind of what they've done do you have a favorite move you've done so that washington has done so
11:20far
11:20and do you expect any other big moves because i kind of don't i just like where they chose to
11:28spend
11:28the money you know on the defense you know they spent more on the line and then the money went
11:33back
11:34accordingly like you know i i don't always love it when teams in this team this franchise did this a
11:39bunch
11:39back in the day spending more on the secondary than the front it doesn't obviously you need both but i
11:45think
11:45the defensive line helps more we knew they needed a pass rush they kind of didn't address it last year
11:50in any real significant way so getting you know away and jason uh in particular just makes so much
11:58sense and then it feels like the chanel pick just works perfectly for what we think dorante jones
12:04wants to do and and i think kind of the same thing on offense like rashad white just fits what
12:09what they kind of need you know they need more of their receiver than what they have at least
12:14the army brown gives them back the speed so i just think they seem to understand what
12:18for this agree with some of us about what their primary needs were not to mention getting younger
12:24and faster and went out and signed players accordingly and that to me is always a sign of a smart
12:30uh group you know we have no idea what's going to happen injuries or whatever but logically i think
12:37everything they've done so far for the most part has made a lot of sense to me yeah i i
12:41i felt that
12:42they've taken their they did some great moves for them in a sense that put them in a position to
12:48where they don't have to go any certain way come uh april for the draft
12:54100 i was uh really excited for free agency this year because i was like they have so many needs
13:00it's impossible to do a mock draft because you can just pick anybody and now a month later it's like
13:06oh great they did they did such a good job of at least covering their bases that i still don't
13:11know what they're gonna do right i mean they could still do almost anything because it's not like
13:15they have to take an edge rusher and again you don't force a receiver if you don't like them
13:20there etc so yeah no they're in a position to do whatever they want again i think that's a good
13:25thing in a year where they're running back a linebacker and a safety or among the better players
13:30you're like okay the other years maybe this would make any sense but right now we can just take the
13:34best player if we want and they may be at an odd position agree with that i i don't know
13:40in a world
13:41of takes that i know your take did you care about jayden playing in that fantasy game over the
13:47weekend well i didn't know anything about it until like i mean i knew i knew what's happening but i
13:52didn't know what he was going to be doing until we started watching it and then you see him going
13:56after patterns and yeah i wasn't thrilled about it for their for their purposes fortunately nothing
14:02mattered and nothing happened and it wasn't a big deal but you know considering you know like it
14:08wasn't so much with him but like you see what like joe burrow was doing he was like legit
14:12twisting and turning and he got hit him once or twice like he's trying to make plays and you're
14:16like wait these dudes have been getting hurt a lot so i wasn't a big fan of that but i'm
14:21sure he got
14:21a really big bag for it unfortunately nothing happened but yeah i wasn't i didn't think it was the best
14:26thing for the team for him you use you didn't know the game was coming up and you saw joe
14:33burrow
14:34doing crazy stuff he didn't do crazy stuff how does that go back to him though i'm wondering
14:40well it's just a matter because it could happen to anybody i mean you're playing against a group
14:44of athletes who sure they're not nfl players but they're athletes and for them this is the super
14:50bowl times 50 like this is the most important game of their lives they're going for it so
14:54you know things can happen i know gronk is not an nfl player these days he's still a very good
15:00athlete he pulls his hamstring within seconds of getting out there um you know i just think
15:05something could happen and taking that risk i just was it was was my concern i just didn't think it
15:11was worth it but again he's the one getting the bag and we're just i'm just looking at it from
15:15the
15:16perspective of the organization you know the perspective i look at it from game over nothing
15:20happened we don't have to speculate and worry about it anymore correct i think if anything the
15:26league has a decision to make i like players in their off season are getting offered significant
15:32money to do this like they are certain for me they're certainly entitled to do it and i think
15:38the league has to make a decision how all in on fantasy football are we because like if you were
15:44a lot of different owners the funniest is we checked in with our friends in philly
15:48would you text you or i can't remember they didn't care the eagles fans were just mad with
15:52how bad jalen hurts but the thing of it is this though year round the nfl and other people involved
16:00in the nfl ask players to do all types of things they can get hurt doing any one of those
16:06things
16:06right like the league was clearly in on this which is what i find so i just i don't understand
16:11why
16:11we're getting to a point now where we think athletes supposed to just play the game and don't do
16:15anything else go get wrapped up in bubble wrap and then come back and play the game again
16:19hell they can get hurt getting wrapped into the bubble wrap yeah i'm not saying do nothing but
16:24like you know i i've talked to players who go play pickup basketball all the time part of their
16:29training programs and but that's at least towards what they're actually towards the vocation they're
16:34actually sorry this is not this is not how does pick up basketball towards their vocation and flag
16:40football not towards okay that doesn't make no sense to me ben well i mean he wasn't really they
16:44weren't really doing that much that i mean if he's going to max out then he's putting himself at
16:48more risk and therefore it's not a pick up basketball you're maxing out dude you're not
16:52on the bat when you're on the basketball court the people you're playing against are not going to
16:56allow you to go out there and pussyfoot around they're going to try to make you go and naturally
17:00your your instincts will pick up and you're going to go harder so i'm saying that like at least in
17:06that setting you you probably are going for it i just don't think they were really going for it
17:10and it doesn't so it's not helping the actual football cause or or any any training aspect or anything
17:17it's a it's an interesting one and there's definitely different opinions we got to run
17:21just from uh how about this ben what's your uh what's your favorite item to get at a baseball game
17:30oh um soda well you know what it's the one well it's the one time i allow my indulge in
17:36a hot dog
17:37kosher hot dog i'll go for that otherwise i'm not touching a hot dog outside of a stadium but at
17:42a
17:42camden yard i'll go for the kosher dog okay standing's one seat is a dog all right dude
17:47we'll talk to you later see you guys that's ben standing you can give a follow at ben standing
