Today the Association for the hearing impaired shared some safety tips to ensure you protect your ears this season!

Nicole M Romany tells us how.

00:00Dr. Amanda Piper is one of a handful of clinical audiologists in Trinidad and
00:06Tobago. She can diagnose and rehabilitate persons with hearing loss.
00:11Today she's cautioning party goers to take stock of the levels of noise around
00:16them. We're concerned about the intensity, the loudness of the sound and we're
00:21concerned about the duration, how long people are in those environments. That's
00:26another huge factor. So I am appealing to the public to please protect your
00:34hearing because as you mentioned this is something that affects everyone, the
00:39patrons who attend these events, security, police officers, bartenders, waiting staff,
00:45DJs, the event planners even. She is recommending the use of a protective air
00:53plug which once inserted in the ear is quite concealed and undetectable. She
00:59warns that listening to very loud music over long periods can lead to permanent
01:05problems. Unfortunately if your hearing goes there is no medicine, prescription,
01:12pill, bush tea, ginkgo biloba that I could give you to restore your hearing.
01:17There's nothing that I can do to change that. So it's one of those things you
01:24have to protect it and keep it if you want to hear later in life. Meanwhile
01:29President of the Association for the Hearing Impaired Nicholas Cumberbatch
01:33says they are offering secure parking during carnival time for those on the
01:38road. He explains that this serves as a fundraiser for the membership. So we open
01:44up our whole compound as a parking lot from carnival Monday from 6 a.m. straight
01:51through to the end of carnival Tuesday right so anybody could come park it we
01:57charge $100 we have 24-hour security and for patrons, for drivers we offer you a
02:04free air plug, the air plug that Dr. Piper was talking about. He says the
02:10entrance is off Rice and Road Port of Spain between the licensing office and
02:15at the UTT a small road that leads to the port.
