00:00I'm your buddy Joe Pisappi is here from fantasy sports today a lot to talk about with baseball starting
00:06The first thing I almost fell over today when I saw it at house Steinbrenner
00:10I said that the Yankees didn't have to shave anymore. They could actually have a well-groomed beard and facial hair
00:18George has to be rolling in his grave
00:22Well, you have to define well-groomed beard so can you play for the Yankees with the current situation that's what I want to know I
00:28Feel like I could I don't know I
00:33Don't think it's a problem, you know what I thought of Scottie
00:36I just kept going back to that old Simpsons episode with
00:39Mr. Burns yelling at Don Mattingly to shave those sideburns
00:42That's all I kept thinking about the entire time when I saw that but good for them. It is
00:462025
00:47People do like to you know, have a little bit of freedom in the workplace and grow a beard a little bit
00:51So yes, I think there's a good compromise. So good for the yet. I think it will certainly lure
00:57A lot of free agents in the offseason. I bet I actually don't
01:01you know, I don't really care, but I do think that guys that
01:06Just let it go wild and they're like, I mean, they look like the Unabomber
01:11I mean, they're looking like they're living in the woods
01:14Like, you know grizzly Adams and ZZ Top. I think those guys look like idiots in Major League Baseball
01:20I mean like or even in the NBA these guys don't shave the entire season like they got they got
01:26Clumps of hair sticking out of the side of their face. I think they look like idiots
01:30Like I mean clean yourself up a little bit
01:32I mean, you're a you know, half of them are billionaires and they look like they're junkies when they go out to play
01:39Honestly, I think they look like idiots. I never had a problem with Steinbrenner's rule. I gotta be honest with you
01:44I thought they look classy, but let's talk about the new guys like Goldschmidt and Bellinger and
01:50Having Max Fried. How do you think those guys are gonna do in the Bronx?
01:55Well, the plan B was spread the wealth around and that's what the Yankees did
01:59I think some of it was spent. Well, some of it was not spent
02:02Well to be honest
02:03I mean eight nine years for Max Fried is a very long investment in any pitcher let alone a pitcher that's already had some
02:10Potential hiccups. I feel like the contract was so long because they expect at some point
02:14There will be a Tommy John surgery in his future. So he'll miss a season, but still it's a very long
02:20Contract for a pitcher and it's funny because if you look across town the Mets are the opposite in terms of pitcher deals, right?
02:25They're like, what do you what are you gonna get you for a year? We are reclamation project
02:28Oh, you're a two-year deal a three-year deal. I think that's a much smarter way of dealing with pitchers now
02:34It's gonna maybe shy away some big-time free agents
02:36But I think what Max Fried did, you know getting that contract good on him the Cody Belanger signing. I like a lot
02:42I don't think this guy's gonna be intimidated by New York. He's played in big markets his whole career
02:46So that's not a problem. His dad was a Yankee. So nothing really phases Cody Belanger
02:50and I think that the flexibility he gives them at that first and center field is really important because
02:55I'm not sure what's left in the tank for Paul Goldschmidt
02:58Paul Goldschmidt is a guy that has declined last three years running in pretty much every statistical category. I understand the Cardinals
03:05We're not a good baseball team last year. I understand that New York is a more friendly environment
03:09But sometimes some guys just lose it now
03:11It'll be interesting to see if he gets off to a good start
03:14Maybe that will start to change my tune about that. But in fantasy circles, especially it's a guy that I'm not really looking at
03:19As a huge value. I like Belanger. I love the Devin Williams signing
03:22I think that was very important the bullpen
03:24Especially the back end was a problem for the Yankees last year snow a good move by the Yankees there
03:28I'd say a good offseason by the Yankees
03:30But I guess said I think long term that free contract a problem and on the flip side, too
03:34I think Goldschmidt might be towards the end and maybe he's got one more good year left. We shall find out
03:40How about the Mets they get Soto and that run they went on last year was very exciting can they live up to it again?
03:47Will it all work again? And they got Alonzo back. I'll be it for this, you know crappy two-year deal he did
03:54Well, I think Sterns did a masterclass there, right?
03:57Because all the leverage is on the Met side at that point
03:59This guy was offered over a hundred million dollars in contract right 150 almost and he had turned it down
04:05He thought he was gonna be worth more and he had it down here. Let's be honest
04:08It was not a great season. So I was a master class in GMing right there by Sterns
04:12I would say that I think the Mets are really intriguing because even though they did go out there and spend a ton of money
04:17On Juan Soto, they did still bring back Pete Alonzo, which lengthens that lineup, which is very important
04:22You're gonna have Soto and Lindor at the top there
04:25You're gonna have a lot of guys on base for whoever's hitting the three-hole
04:28I think it should be Vientos in the three-hole not
04:31Necessarily Alonzo. I'd like to see Alonzo five will keep Nimmo in the four spot
04:35I think that's the best lineup the Mets can put out there
04:37The Alonzo addition is very important because that lengthens that lineup
04:41I think a guy like Vientos if you're looking at props for him
04:43I'd be going over a hundred RBI for him like whatever the RBI total is
04:47I'm sure it's gonna be in the 80s. I'll set it go over cuz he's gonna get a hundred RBI on this team
04:51I'm telling you right now and
04:53Bringing back shaman. I am very crucial. They hope that Senga is healthy
04:56I think clay Holmes can be kind of like a version of Derek Lowe in the past
05:00Remember when they converted Derek Lowe in Boston from the bullpen extreme ground ball pitcher you're bringing him into this mess rotation
05:08It's a higher strikeout rate though the Derek Lowe ever had so he could be a version of Derek Lowe with more strikeouts
05:13I think that's actually a very appealing pitcher potentially for the New York Mets, especially with that offense
05:18They have I would also be looking at Luis Angel Acuna at plus 3500 for rookie of the year
05:23I think Jeff McNeil is a bench player a utility guy at this stage in his career
05:27I don't think he's an everyday player Acuna was raking in the Arizona Fall League and I think he could have a very big season
05:32I think you will play more than a hundred games at second base for the Mets in 2025
05:36How do you think you'll do in Atlanta now that he's back and he's had you know, two bad knees surgeries
05:43But what will they be like without freed and with him back?
05:48Well Atlanta right now you're looking at Acuna at least missing April
05:52That seems to be what people are thinking about and it's ironic because the last time he came back from this surgery, right?
05:58People were saying well, you know just have small expectations about the stolen bases
06:02He won't run and that was a big load of crap because he came a ton of bases that first year back and last year
06:09Or should I say two years ago rather? He was a 4070 player
06:12I mean an incredible return there to dominance for Acuna
06:16So I would expect him to come back be healthy ready to go on time
06:20And now with two surgically repaired knees, you have to hope now that the worst is behind him
06:26Strider is the more intriguing piece here
06:28He's going very early still in fantasy drafts, and I know he's already throwing bullpens
06:32But I'm very skeptical that he's gonna be ready anytime soon
06:35I think the Braves are a team that they could just hang around
06:38500 they could have a big second half sneak into the playoffs and then be trouble because you can get Strider healthy and sail
06:44on that rotation and a guy like Schwellenbach to maybe repeat or build upon what he did in 2024 and
06:50That could be a really tough rotation
06:52We know how deep that lineup is to the addition of pro far gives them flexibility in the outfield to
06:57Really smart pickup by Atlanta who really kind of had a quiet offseason outside of pro far
07:01So I know they have no payroll and they suck. But how do you think?
07:06Scenes and Keller will do for the Pirates. They do have great young pitchers and nothing else
07:13But how do you think those three arms are gonna do in Pittsburgh? Will they win games?
07:18I you know, you always set me up here with a Pirates question and I love you about this
07:22And I want your Pirates to succeed and here's the best part. They've got more pitching coming down the pipeline
07:27I mean, there's a lot of pitching still to come here for the Pittsburgh Pirates. So
07:33At this point, I think when you have a rotation that's got guys like skeins at the top Jones
07:39Maybe you get some more from Keller this year
07:40You got some of these other young kids who are coming through right now at the triple-a and double-a levels
07:44You have a lot of pitching there's been some rumbles in the offseason that Jones might be a guy that they might flip for some
07:49Offense, I don't think that's a bad idea and to tell you the truth if I'm the Orioles right now
07:55I've got a glut of all these young prospects. I've got I don't have enough spot for a spot for all these guys in my
08:01Lineup, whether it's the Heston Kierstads or the Kobe Mayo's and all these guys that they've got they just lost Corbin Burns. I
08:08Love Grayson Rodriguez
08:09I look at the rest of that rotation and I'm a little worried about the Orioles this year if the Orioles were smart
08:14they would get together for a meeting of the minds and
08:17Get a guy like Jared Jones and flip one of these position player infield prospects
08:22They have whether it be a Westberg or a Kobe Mayo or even an outfield by Kierstad
08:26It makes sense for both of these organizations because losing Corbin Burns at the top is huge for this team
08:31And like I said, it Grayson's great. The rest of this rotation
08:34I think is questionable and I think the Red Sox the Jays and the Yankees all made improvements last year's Orioles are in trouble
08:41I think
08:41Well, I mean we see Bregman go to Boston
08:44I hate to talk about the Red Sox
08:45But I'd rather hear what you think of them then talk about the Dodgers. It makes me want to puke
08:51No, Garrett crochet acquiring him. That's a huge game-changer and the fact they didn't move any of their prospects like Roman
08:58Anthony Christian Campbell both those guys will make big impacts
09:01I'm sure in 2025 and I think it's smart to move Devers off third base in favor of Bregman
09:06I think it's gonna happen sooner than later
09:11Buddy
