00:00If you're in many parts of the U.S. at the moment, there's a good chance you're currently
00:03trying to escape the heat. And if you're expecting, you might want to be doubly sure you're
00:08finding somewhere cool, as a new study has found a troubling link between high temperatures and
00:12pregnancy issues. Studies in the past have already linked exposure to extreme high heat
00:17and having a premature birth. The same has also been linked to stillbirths. Now a new study has
00:22revealed even more issues, from congenital abnormalities in the infant to low birth weight
00:27and more. After conducting a systematic review, experts noted that individuals who had been
00:31exposed to excessive heat before they were born, suffered alarming lifelong effects. Those include
00:36an increased risk of heart disease and hypertension. They also found a link between
00:40high temperatures during pregnancy and childhood pneumonia. High heat was also linked to childhood
00:45obesity for those who experienced it while in the womb. Other unrelated studies have also found a
00:50link between high temperatures and mental illness and lower life expectancy. The connection between
00:55all of these maladies is still yet to be defined, but experts say as our planet continues to heat up,
01:00we can expect to see more of these in our children.
