00:00A massive new defence budget for Denmark.

00:04The Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, announced on Wednesday the surge in military spending

00:09after attending emergency talks with European leaders earlier this week.

00:14We are facing an aggressive Russia that is rearming, and which may be getting ready to

00:20attack other countries.

00:22We are in the most dangerous situation we've been in for many, many years.

00:27Now we are allocating $7 billion over the next two years with a message for the Chief

00:31of Defence.

00:32Buy, buy, buy.

00:34Buy what you can contribute here and now to a stronger defence and thus to stronger deterrence.

00:44This will raise Denmark's defence spending to 3% of its GDP, the highest level in more

00:50than 50 years.

00:51The government says it aims to address critical shortcomings, especially in air missile defence

00:57systems.

00:58This announcement came just hours before French President Emmanuel Macron held a new meeting

01:04on Ukraine with several smaller European countries, including Denmark's neighbour Sweden.

01:10A country that has drastically increased its defence spending in recent years, and is now

01:15urging other nations to follow suit.

01:19Regarding Ukraine, Europe is currently at a crossroads, and the world is at a turning

01:24point.

01:25More countries now, at a dramatic pace, I emphasise this, at a dramatic pace, must build

01:30up their national defences.

01:34Citing the worsening security situation across Europe and an unprecedented U-turn in US foreign

01:40policy under President Donald Trump, Sweden and Poland earlier in the day agreed to strengthen

01:46and deepen their cooperation, both politically and in civil defence.
