00:00Amid Donald Trump's threats to take Greenland one way or the other, the Arctic Territory's
00:05Prime Minister was unequivocal.

00:09Greenland does not want to be owned by the U.S. Greenland does not want to be governed
00:14by the U.S. Greenland does not want to be part of the U.S.
00:18Prime Minister Nielsen added that in the current climate, the semi-autonomous territory would
00:23choose to remain part of Denmark, which has ruled it for centuries.
00:27He was speaking at a joint press conference with the Danish Prime Minister, who said it
00:31had been difficult to confront the United States, a fellow NATO member.
00:35It has not been easy to stand up against completely unacceptable pressure from our closest allies
00:41for a generation, but at the same time, much suggests that the hardest part still lies ahead
00:46of us.
00:47White House officials have been discussing various plans to bring Greenland under U.S. control,

00:59As tensions mount, the foreign ministers of Greenland and Denmark have arranged to meet
01:03the U.S. Vice President and Secretary of State on Wednesday.
01:06Our reason for requesting this meeting has been to move this entire discussion, which has not
01:13become less tense since we were last there, into a meeting room where you can look each other
01:18in the eye.
01:20Trump insists the U.S. needs Greenland for national security.
01:24Greenland and NATO have said they intend to strengthen the territory's defence.
01:29We all agree that when it comes to the protection of the Arctic, we have to work together.
01:36And that's exactly what we are doing.
01:38Some alliance members have floated the idea of launching a new mission in the region, although
01:43no concrete proposals are yet on the table.
