00:00Inviting a possible invader to join your military exercise is an unusual gambit, but that's
00:06exactly what the head of Denmark's Joint Arctic Command has done.
00:10We had a meeting today with a lot of NATO partners, including the US, and invited them
00:17to participate in this exercise.
00:22NATO allies excluding the US kicked off military drills on Greenland this week.
00:27They're small but highly publicised in light of President Donald Trump's bellicose rhetoric.
00:37The latest warning is that he'll slap tariffs on any country that opposes his plans to annex
00:42the Danish territory, a necessity, he argues, because of Russian and Chinese ships in the
00:47region that pose a threat to America.
00:50Commander Soren Anderson sought to dispel that claim.
00:53There are Chinese and Russian vessels in the Arctic Ocean, but not near Greenland.
01:02But of course, if we have Russia attacking Greenland, it is my task to defend it.
01:09And I will do that both with Danish troops, but of course within the alliance as well.
01:16He insisted the US doesn't pose a threat.
01:19But Greenlanders fear they must take Trump at his word.
01:22Large numbers of them are expected to protest this Saturday, joined by fellow citizens on
01:26the Danish mainland with the message, Hands Off Greenland.
