A new investigative process will be initiated regarding the increase of violence and citizen insecurity in Ecuador.

00:00Ecuador's Congress announced the start of investigations into the increase of

00:04violence that has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people since January

00:082025. Precisely, the President of the country's National Assembly, Viviana

00:13Veloz, stated that the current situation demonstrates a resounding failure of

00:18both the security policies and the Phoenix plan promoted by the government

00:24of President Daniel Novoa. The head of the Parliament regretted that the recent

00:28violent events have minors as collateral victims. Furthermore, Veloz

00:33considered inadmissible and of great concern the appointment of General

00:37Fausto Buenaño as new Minister of the Interior since he is presumably linked

00:43to acts of corruption. A new investigative process will be

00:51initiated regarding the increase of violence and citizen insecurity in

00:55Ecuador. So far this year we have had more than 1,050 violent deaths with

01:01collateral victims such as minors, which demonstrates a complete failure of

01:05security policies and also of the national government's Phoenix plan.
