00:06a law banning bribery of foreign officials would likely scuttle Malaysia's efforts to

00:11recover a full settlement from Goldman Sachs.

00:14US President Donald Trump signed an executive order freezing the Foreign Corrupt Practices

00:19Act on Monday.

00:22CBS News reported that the executive order places a 180-day pause to all investigations

00:27under the FCPA while they are being reviewed.

00:31In a post on X, Tom Wright wrote,

00:34No chance now Malaysia will get its billions from Goldman.

00:38One of Wright's followers on X said, however, that Putrajaya was still painting rosy pictures

00:43that Trump's administration would not hinder Malaysia's effort to reclaim its money, to

00:47which Wright replied,

00:48Goldman already dragging feet.

00:52In November last year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim demanded that Goldman Sachs honour

00:56its settlement with Putrajaya over its role in the 1MDB scandal, which included a US$2.5

01:02billion cash payment within 10 days and a guarantee to recover US$1.4 billion in assets

01:09within five years.

01:101MDB Asset Recovery Task Force Chairman Johari Ghani said,

01:15Ambiguities in the 2020 agreement between Putrajaya and Goldman Sachs are allowing the

01:19New York-based investment bank to evade its full responsibilities.
