00:00UMNO has opposed the proposal for a non-Muslim religious affairs minister and claimed that
00:05all non-Muslim government leaders have agreed not to breach the constitution's provisions
00:10on the position of Islam.
00:11UMNO Secretary General Ashraf Wajidi Dusuki claimed that an agreement was signed by non-Muslim
00:16leaders of every component party in the unity government.
00:20He said DAP, PKR, UPCO, parties in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Gabungan Parti Sarawak have
00:27also agreed not to breach the special privileges of Malay Bumi Putras and the sovereignty of
00:32the Malay rulers.
00:33In a Facebook post, Ashraf said UMNO believed that it was unnecessary to appoint a minister
00:38to oversee non-Muslim religious affairs since the matter already fell under the National
00:43Unity Minister's purview.
00:45Previously, RAUB MP Chow Yu Hui said having two religious affairs ministers under the
00:50Prime Minister's department could curb controversies linked to religious issues.
00:55Earlier today, Kepala Batas Amana Youth Chief Abra Sadiq also criticized the proposal, saying
01:00it was not in line with Malaysia's administrative system.
01:04He said Chow's proposal was irrelevant as there were sufficient mechanisms to protect
01:08the interests of non-Muslims.
