00:00This is what Kota Melaka MP Ku Puay Tiong said to put an end to a heated debate over
00:20the proposed guidelines for Muslims attending non-Muslim festivities.
00:25Ku was referring to a statement by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah,
00:30saying he did not agree with the proposed guidelines for Muslims attending non-Muslim
00:33festivities, funerals, or events at non-Muslim places of worship, and was of the view that
00:38the Quran and Sunnah already provided the best guidelines for Muslims.
00:43The debate in the Dewan Rakyat was sparked after Chow Yu Hui expressed concerns over
00:47the proposed guidelines, arguing it would deepen the racial and religious divide in
00:51the country.
00:53However, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man defended the need for a guideline, saying it was necessary
00:58to prevent Muslims from participating in activities that could affect their faith.
01:03Chow then mentioned that the Menteri Besar of past-led Turinganu had attended a Chinese
01:07New Year celebration.
