00:00The High Court has ruled in favour of a group of ex-civil servants and ordered the government
00:06to expedite adjustments to their pensions in accordance with a previous court ruling.
00:12Justice Amarjit Singh said a service circular issued in 2016 had the effect of a salary
00:18revision for government servants.
00:20The judge said that as a result, government pensioners were entitled under the Pensions
00:25Adjustment Act 1980 to pensions corresponding to the adjusted salary.
00:30Amarjit ordered the Director-General of the Public Services Department to make the necessary
00:35pension payments within three months from today.
00:38On February 29, 2024, the High Court granted ex-civil servant Amina Ahmad and her co-applicants
00:44leave to commence judicial review proceedings.
00:48The application named the government and the JPA Director-General as respondents.
00:53It sought to compel the respondents to implement adjustments to their pensions in accordance
00:58with the formula prescribed in Sections 3 and 6 of the PAA prior to amendments to the
01:03law made in 2013.
