00:00Newcastle City Council have announced they will be part of the Department of Education's
00:05National Wraparound Programme. The programme brings over £1.3 million of Department of
00:10Education's money that will fund wraparound care, so child care between 8am and 6pm,
00:15for working families. The programme will be linked to every primary school in Newcastle
00:19and it's designed to provide high-quality, affordable care that wraps around the school
00:23day and gives parents greater flexibility and support. The programme builds on the success
00:28of extended early years entitlements, ensuring families who have benefited from child care
00:33support for children as young as 9 months old can continue to access these vital services
00:38as their children move into school. The funding will run until the end of March 2026.
00:43Councillor Lesley Storey, Cabinet Member for Children and Families at Newcastle City Council,
00:48said, By increasing access to affordable, high-quality child care, we are empowering
00:53parents to pursue work or training opportunities, while also helping eligible families access
00:58additional child care funding.
