Why don’t people watch soap operas anymore?

With a decline in soap opera viewers over the years, we’re asking people around Wales why they think they’ve gone out of fashion.

00:07When you have the option to either watch a soap opera

00:10and then only find out what happens next week,

00:13or pay £7 a month or just do a free trial and watch the entire show,

00:17people nowadays are going to watch the entire show

00:19because they don't have the attention span to wait a week

00:21and find out what happens.

00:22Cliffhangers are so underappreciated nowadays.

00:24Nowadays people much rather watch the telly series on Netflix

00:27and I think crime shows have gone up massively in viewing as well.

00:31So I'd say soap operas, I'd say that kind of comedy

00:34has sort of gone out the window a bit or just died with time.

00:37I don't know.

00:39But if it's something like...

00:41I couldn't watch Coronation Street

00:44because I wasn't born when it started, so I couldn't follow along.

00:47I don't have the time to rewatch from the beginning to find the plot.

00:51But I like how for EastEnders and that,

00:54you kind of don't need to know the entire plot to follow along.

00:57You just start somewhere and you get there.
