Declining soap ratings: Why are viewers tuning out?

Soap operas are seeing a drop in ratings, so we ask Birmingham residents why they think this is happening. What keeps them watching, or why have they stopped tuning in altogether?

00:00Oh we're real fans now of Coronation Street and Emmerdale. We left them off for a while but now we're real fans and we even went to the

00:07Coronation Street on the Emmerdale tour day so yeah and they have good and bad

00:12storylines they will dip at some time but and they usually have a good message

00:17in them so never watched EastEnders anymore because I just found they were

00:20shouted at each other. Although because there's so much more choice you know

00:25you look at the linear television and you can see this there isn't a lot

00:30really to to go for. Netflix, Disney, Paramount whatever there's a lot of

00:36choice there and it's there for quite a long time so the soaps I think people

00:40realize that some of the storylines are a bit a bit bizarre a bit far-fetched.

00:50so yeah I don't I'm surprised they're still going to be honest because

00:54everything is online isn't it so I'm surprised people still watch them but I
