Hamilton steers jump 79c/kg on average year-on-year as weaners pass $1800

Agents yarded 2693 cattle at the Hamilton Regional Livestock Exchange.

00:00The market was good today, like on our first Tuesday,

00:03all great steers. So the feedlot interest was very strong for those 380 kilo plus steers

00:10that were sent to the feedlots. Sort of two main feedlot mowers hooked in there and had a real

00:15good go there. EU was a fraction, a bit of a premium there on those batter cattle, which was

00:23great. You'd step down to those under 380, so from that 320, 340 to 380 kilos, still a lot of

00:32interest there. Probably didn't have the punch as those heavier cattle, but still got out to a bit

00:37over $4. So from 380 to $4. And then you got on the lighter cars, I think we stopped at $4.50

00:45for some 260 odd kilo blank steers. So that was pretty good. That was all on the blacks.

00:51And then the Hereford job was very much the same, sort of 385, 390 for the majority,

00:58but then we got out to $4.40 for some lighter Herefords. So overall, it was a very good day.

01:04I think the 405 average for the day on the steers over the whole yarning, so a terrific result.

01:10That average 405 is about 80 cents. On the same sale last year, it's been quite the turnaround.

01:16It is, absolutely. Which is good. It's good that it's actually gone into our client's favour,

01:22because I know they actually have spent a lot of money on fodder this year, and it's

01:26going back into the cows. So it's good to see that the client's actually paid for it.
