Budget brands vs. big names: Are cheaper supermarket alternatives worth it?

With many supermarkets offering budget brands to help shoppers save money, we ask Birmingham residents if they think these alternatives are just as good as big-name brands. Do they notice a difference, or are cheaper options the way forward?

00:00Personally I do know it's a difference. They're cheaper for a reason, aren't they?

00:04But if that's what you can afford, that's what you can afford.

00:06Because the big brands are so expensive, people just can't afford it.

00:09So I agree with the cheaper brands, to be fair.

00:12But there is a difference. There is a difference.

00:14Just as good.

00:16What annoys me about the supermarkets is the loyalty now, where they have two prices.

00:21So if you want to go into Sainsbury's and you don't have a Nectar card, you pay a higher price.

00:26They're just as good as the big brands, like Moeller, Harkworks and Aldi.

00:30So we always get the Aldi stuff and it's sometimes better than the bigger brands.

00:35So yeah, big, you know, cheaper brands, there's nothing wrong with it.

00:39I look at these things, Tesco's, with the club card.

00:42You know, something is such and such a price, but with a club card, it's like...

00:47And you get, for every pound you spend, you get one pack.

00:50If they can afford to sell it at that price, why don't they sell it at that price all the time

00:54and scrap the loyalty cards?

00:56Because that would help people who are on a lower budget.
