Homes can be made more fire-resistant

There are certain key measures that can be taken to make sure that buildings do not burn, “regardless of what they’re made of,” wildfire scientist and fire ecologist Dr. Chad Hanson says.   #LosAngeles #LosAngelesWildfires

00:07One of the pieces I read has suggested that because of the fact that you're in an earthquake

00:11zone there in parts of California, buildings have to have a certain amount of flexibility

00:17and that does therefore make them a little bit more fire risk, more flammable.

00:25Is that true in your opinion?

00:26No, I've seen no evidence of that.

00:28You can take steps that are very effective to make a wood structure much more fire resistant.

00:37It's even better if the structure is not made of wood, made of materials that don't burn,

00:41but you can make the steel structures or masonry.

00:47There's all kinds of building materials that can be employed.

00:52But the main thing is that there are certain key things that need to be done to make sure

00:57that homes don't burn, regardless of what they're made of.
