00:00Do you see a day once the fires have been extinguished when perhaps there is a long hard look at the policies surrounding safety there in California and fire safety in particular?
00:15And do you think they will put into place new measures and perhaps even barriers to try to protect communities from these kinds of massive fire?
00:25Well, barriers wouldn't work. I mean, that kind of a conversation has happened before.
00:31The problem is that the great majority of homes that burn in wildfires, and this is true in these fires in Los Angeles area,
00:41the great majority of homes that burn in wildfires do not burn from direct contact with flames.
00:46They burn from the embers that are driven by the winds that are driving the flames.
00:52And those embers will go a mile, two miles, three miles, sometimes four miles in advance of the flames, and they will rain down by the millions.
01:01And anything that potentially can burn will ignite.
