00:00The government is duty-bound to clarify whether a purported royal decree allowing Najib Razak

00:06to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest exists, a senior lawyer said.

00:12Baljit Singh Sidhu said, full disclosure as to the existence of the decree was essential

00:17to maintain public trust and ensure accountability.

00:21The lawyer called for the matter to be addressed with the utmost urgency and transparency,

00:26highlighting that the federal constitution and the rule of law must be upheld at all

00:30times.

00:32Baljit said the Attorney General's Chambers and the Legal Affairs Department of the relevant

00:36ministry must play active roles in providing clarity and ensuring accountability.

00:42He said the presiding monarch, Yangdi Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, and the incumbent Attorney

00:47General, Tusuki Mokhtar, should not be burdened if matters have already been decided on.

00:54Baljit said Article 42 of the federal constitution vests the king with significant powers to

00:59grant pardons, reprieves and respites.
