00:00Hello, there. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met. As we go through the
00:04last couple of days of 2024, the weather is set to be very unsettled for most of us. Areas
00:11of low pressure will move across the country, bringing in spells of wind, rain and for some
00:15of us, snow. All of us are under a warning at some point during the course of the New
00:20Year period. So do stay up to date with the latest warnings on our website and we'll always
00:24keep you up to date here on our YouTube channel too.
00:28Back to the here and now. It's a fairly quiet end to Sunday. Plenty of cloud, though, around
00:34maybe some clearest skies towards the very far south. But for Scotland, a very wet night
00:39to come. If anything, that rain will just continue to intensify as the night goes on,
00:44accompanied by quite a strong wind, but also just encountering some colder air too. So
00:48we could see some snow, especially across the higher ground of the north. So where we
00:54do see that colder air, we could just also see maybe a few icy patches. But for most
00:58of us, especially under the cloud cover, a fairly mild night to come with most towns
01:02and cities not falling much lower than about five to six degrees. So a wet and possibly
01:08snowy start across parts of Scotland. Warnings are in force here right throughout Monday
01:12and going into the New Year period. The rain also just arriving into parts of Northern
01:17Ireland, maybe Northern England too, and generally quite a blustery day across the north. Even
01:21parts of the Pennines, we could see some buffeting on the road. So do allow some extra time for
01:26your journeys. Across many southern and central areas, still generally quiet here, albeit
01:32rather cloudy. There'll be some glimmers of sunshine from time to time. And here it's
01:36still fairly mild, highs reaching around 10 to 11 degrees, but pretty chilly and probably
01:41increasingly chilly as the day goes on across Scotland as that colder air seeps just that
01:46little bit further south. Into the evening, the next weather system begins to show its
01:51face. So a renewed risk of rain and snow across Scotland. Increasing winds too, with
01:58a very windy end to the night for parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland. For much of
02:03England and Wales, although blustery, still generally dry here with some clearer skies
02:09and another fairly mild night to come for all but the far north of Scotland. So moving
02:16into New Year's Eve, Hogmanay, that area of rain will continue to track its way south-eastward.
02:21So a spell of heavy rain developing for parts of Northern England and eventually into Wales.
02:26Still dry ahead of this system, but I think even across some southern areas by the end
02:31of New Year's Eve, we will see some rain. Some improvements further north, but still
02:35quite blustery with potentially some further rain and snow for the far north of Scotland.
02:40I'm feeling pretty chilly here, but elsewhere, again, just holding on to the mild conditions
02:45for the time being, albeit very blustery in places. And then looking ahead to New
02:51Year's Day, after maybe a very brief calmer interlude overnight, another weather system
02:56will move in during the course of the day. This time, maybe a focus towards central and
03:01southern areas of the UK, with a risk of some heavy rain, some strong winds and on the northern
03:06edge of the system, again, the risk of some snow. But you can keep up to date with the
03:10latest warnings on our website, where you can also check out your local forecast. But
03:14from me for now, take care and I'll see you again soon.
