00:00It's a missile launcher that dishes out standard and Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range
00:06of roughly 2,000 kilometers and has been stationed here by the U.S. military and government since
00:12the Balikaran exercises in late April this year.
00:15Now the AFP wants the Typhoon missile system to be in the country's arsenal of defense
00:21and security systems that China openly resents and denounces as we hear more from PTV's Patrick
00:27de Jesus.
00:30The Philippine Army confirmed the U.S. mid-range Typhoon missile system remains in the Philippines.
00:37It has been in the country since April this year and has been used in various training
00:41exercises.
00:43It is capable of deploying the standard Missile 6 and Tomahawk land-attack missile with a
00:49range of up to 2,000 kilometers or more.
00:52According to Philippine Army Commanding General Lieutenant General Roy Galido, training activities
00:57continue with the aid of this equipment.
01:00Galido also stated that the MRC is one of the items the Philippines plans to procure.
01:07He believes this will enhance the Army's capability to contribute to territorial defense and protect
01:14the Philippines' exclusive economic zone in collaboration with the Philippine Navy
01:19and Philippine Air Force.
01:36China has previously criticized the presence of the U.S. missile system in the Philippines.
01:42However, the National Security Council and Defense Secretary Gibut Yodoro firmly stated
01:48that no country can dictate defense strategies to the Philippines, a stance echoed by the
01:54Army.
01:55Meanwhile, the 2024 National Security Strategy has been approved with its aim of a safer,
02:23unified nation.
02:24President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved this during a meeting in Malacanang last week,
02:30attended by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Special Assistant to President Antonio Lagdameo
02:37Jr., and National Security Advisor Eduardo Año.
02:41Under the National Security Strategy, the National Security Policy 2023-2028 of the
02:48Marcos Jr. Administration will be implemented in line with Executive Order No. 37.
02:55The National Security Strategy outlines 53 strategic directions and nearly 400 measures
03:02for protecting Philippine sovereignty, promoting the welfare of Filipinos, and strengthening
03:07peace and unity.
03:09The NSS focuses on four key areas, including the effective use of instruments of diplomacy
03:16and defense, and promoting development through economic resilience and legislative support.
03:23For his part, the President emphasized the importance of the NSS, and expressed hope
03:28this document will serve as the Philippines' guide in addressing complex challenges while
03:34ensuring every Filipino benefits from it.
