00:00We are in the Youth Hub at Caring in Bristol, which is our space for young people who are experiencing or facing homelessness.
00:08And tell me a little bit about the Youth Hub then.
00:11The Youth Hub is part of our project which is called Z-House.
00:14And the Z-House is an emergency youth shelter for young people who find themselves without anywhere to live.
00:24And in terms of the building here then, what does it entail?
00:30So this building is the Caring in Bristol space in general, but it is home to Z-House as well.
00:37It means that we've got a hub where young people can come, get the advice, information and support that they need
00:45so that they can address their housing insecurity issues.
00:49It also means that they get that personal support as well.
00:53We know that homelessness can be quite traumatic and we have a team of youth practitioners
00:59who are really skilled at building positive relationships with young people.
01:04And tell me a little bit about the factors that could lead young people in the city of Bristol to need your services then.
01:11We know that in Bristol it's a very expensive place to live.
01:15There have been many people who have said it's the most expensive place to live outside of London.
01:21That means that housing is becoming more and more unaffordable to younger people
01:26who might be on a lower rate of benefit, who might be on a lower rate of pay as well.
01:31They might even be working on zero-hours contracts, things like that.
01:36So it is difficult to afford the rent.
01:38Also what we need to remember is as well that because there's a shortage of affordable housing in Bristol
01:45it means that young people often go to the back of the queue with landlords preferring different people in their properties.
01:52And so young people are really not very well provided for in the housing system currently.
