00:0018-year-old Shiva tells he is quickly advancing in the sport of kickboxing.
00:04Coming out of Evolution Kickboxing under Jason Ramuta, he has six victories with
00:09four of them coming by technical knockout. I got involved into boxing and
00:15kickboxing all for the passion and watching fighters and watching this
00:18sport and watching the humility they have after and the pride they gain from
00:25the sport and winning titles. That's how I start. His coach believes he has the
00:29potential to go far. Shiva has been doing exceptionally well. He's undefeated.
00:34There's actually no one at his weight that wants to fight him now. So we
00:41are currently we're going to look to try the game outside the country to start
00:45fighting. What do you think gives him a competitive edge over his opponent?
00:50Shiva is very dedicated. He comes to the gym every day. I as his coach literally
00:56has to tell him to stay away. He started the gym, joined the class and also
01:00attends at the University of the West Indies where he pursues a major in
01:04environmental and natural resource management. I'd love to be, I'd love if I
01:10could continue my career and be both as a soil specialist providing help for
01:18agriculture throughout the nation and at the same time bringing the pride of being
01:22a world champion one day. So now that you're doing this sport, how do your
01:26parents feel about it? At first, as all parents would be, your mom, your dad is
01:34like, oh my god, my child going in the ring, he going to die. And never die. So now
01:40they're just proud that, you know, he could bring such an accomplishment and they
01:46could tell everybody about it. The sport can be dangerous and Tulsi shared what
01:50goes through his mind during a fight. Do you feel empathy for your fighters
01:55when you fight them and you see perhaps that they're injured because of a punch
01:59that you just delivered? There has been times where I knock out people and I felt
02:07very, very sad for them because I know I wouldn't want to be in the receiving end
02:12of that. But after I see that they make it out okay and they're good to go, I just feel
02:20okay. But it does bring a sense of sorrow and like somebody can't get up
02:24from the ground. He wants to inspire the youth and take his career in the sport
02:29internationally. Now that I win the title for Trinidad and Tobago, the future
02:34objective is to go and probably get a Pan American belt, a belt in the states,
02:40Suriname or Cuba. And that's it. And then from there, further into international,
02:47you know, probably pride, WBC, something like that. So what's the best part about
02:53training? My favorite part about training is not the fact that it had
02:58my tourbentine on me, but it's the people I meet along the way. True friends that
03:04have the same goal in mind. They have the same passion and it does make training better
03:09and it does form, you know, it does make comrades. He intends to focus on his
03:15technique moving forward as he aims to one day become a world champion. Sergio
