The NSW Rural Fire Service conducted a hazard reduction burn in North Tamworth on Friday, December 6, in Godlee Lane, Daruka. The 15-hectare burn was part of critical bushfire mitigation efforts. Video by Gareth Gardner, 6-12-24

00:00Yeah, we're here north of Tamworth completing a hazard reduction in the hills behind Moor

00:11Creek and Daruka.

00:13The aim is to be able to reduce the fuels on that interface to protect those communities

00:20during this hot summer.

00:30There will be a succession of burns in this area.

00:38It's quite a large hazard reduction, so we're taking every opportunity to come into this

00:45area and complete hazard reductions in a piecemeal kind of fashion.

01:00It's important that we take these opportunities, particularly in between the storms and the

01:08rain and this hot weather that we've had, to complete these hazard reductions so that

01:13we do get reduced fuel in this area.

01:16So should a bushfire kick off, then we've got some opportunity to get that fire under

01:23control.
