00:00As Malaysia's energy demands rise, the need to nurture energy-conscious habits has become
00:11essential. Recognising this, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, in partnership with star media group
00:16Berhad, launched Powering the Future, a school engagement series designed to educate students
00:23on energy conservation and sustainability, empowering the youth to lead Malaysia toward
00:28a greener future. The series started in Selangor, where it reached 10 schools and engaged 746
00:41students. Building on last year's success, this year's programme expanded its focus
00:47from basic electricity-saving tips to the broader concept of energy efficiency. Through
00:54interactive workshops, students explored practical ways to reduce energy consumption
00:58by designing energy-efficient homes, and learning to select cost-effective and sustainable appliances.
01:06The programme then made its debut in Negeri Sembilan, involving 788 students from another
01:1210 schools. Here, students and educators praised the programme's hands-on approach, noting
01:17that it left a strong impression by showing students how energy-saving measures directly
01:22impact the environment. Through these sessions, students gained a new awareness that they
01:28could take home, benefiting both their families and the planet.
01:35Moving on to Melaka, the series connected with 784 students across 11 schools. The focus
01:41in Melaka was on responsible energy use and safety, with sessions that encouraged children
01:47to adopt smart energy habits early in life, by teaching students to be mindful of energy
01:52use at home. The programme aims to instil lifelong values that will benefit future generations.
02:02In Perak, 760 students from 10 schools participated in the series, gaining insights into efficient
02:08energy use and the broader implications of Malaysia's energy transition. Students engaged
02:13with the material through hands-on activities, giving them practical knowledge they could
02:18immediately apply in their daily lives. This engagement is key to sparking interest in
02:22sustainability at a young age. In Johor, the programme continued with 648
02:31students from 8 schools. For many, it was their first time learning about energy production
02:36and the importance of reducing energy waste. The series emphasised that even small changes
02:41in everyday habits could have a meaningful impact on the environment, encouraging students
02:45to take ownership of their role in energy conservation.
02:50The series concluded in Penang, where it reached 819 students across 11 schools. The programme
02:57inspired students to bring energy-saving practices back to their families, reducing both electricity
03:02costs and environmental impact. Teachers emphasised that by instilling these habits, students
03:08can become advocates for sustainability within their communities.
03:14Overall, Powering the Future successfully engaged 4,545 students from 60 schools across
03:21six states, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make a difference. This programme
03:26reflects Tenaga National Berhad and Star Media Group's commitment to empowering youth to
03:30lead the way toward a sustainable future. By instilling practical energy-saving habits
03:35early, these young advocates are poised to drive Malaysia's energy transformation and
03:40contribute to a legacy of responsible, sustainable energy use for generations to come.
