00:00In Malaysia, most of our electricity still comes from coal and natural gas, which are
00:04resources that have long powered our homes, schools, and industries.
00:09But while they fuel our progress, they also leave behind a heavy environmental cost.
00:14As the nation strives toward its goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, renewable energy
00:19sources like solar and hydro are becoming key players in that transition.
00:23Yet, until cleaner energy fully takes over, the challenge remains.
00:28How do we balance our energy needs with the health of our planet?
00:32Everyday consumption plays a part too.
00:34The more we use, the more carbon we emit, heating the atmosphere, harming public health, and deepening
00:39the effects of climate change.
00:42Real change therefore, begins not only with technology, but with awareness, responsibility,
00:47and education.
00:49To spark this change, Tenaga National Buhad, TNB, in collaboration with Star Media Group,
00:55launched the Powering the Future School Activation Programme, a nationwide effort to educate
01:00and empower the next generation.
01:02Now in its third edition, Powering the Future 3.0 continued its mission with renewed energy
01:08and purpose.
01:10This year, the program reached 3,248 students across 40 primary and secondary schools in Pahang,
01:18Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis.
01:23Under the umbrella of the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme, MELP, this initiative bridges the
01:28gap between awareness and action, introducing young minds to the fascinating world of renewable
01:33energy through hands-on, experiential learning.
01:36For primary school students, the experience began with renewable energy model kit building,
01:42their lessons came alive through creativity and play.
01:45As they pieced together solar-powered cars and wind turbines, they weren't just building
01:49models.
01:50They were constructing a vision of a cleaner, smarter future.
01:54Each student also received a Kuntum Edutainment workbook, filled with stories and activities
01:58that reinforced the values of sustainability, inspiring them to bring these lessons home
02:03and share them with their families.
02:05For secondary school students, the program took on a more analytical edge.
02:08They engaged in critical thinking exercises and real-world simulations designed to challenge
02:13how they view energy use, prompting them to make thoughtful, efficient choices that could
02:18reduce consumption and emissions in everyday life.
02:21To encourage a habit of continuous learning, all participants received a one-year subscription
02:26to the STARS ePaper, blending digital literacy with environmental mindfulness, because reading
02:31online, after all, saves more than just paper.
02:38Through interactive lessons, teamwork, and meaningful discussion, Powering the Future
02:433.0 planted the seeds of awareness in thousands of young Malaysians.
02:47It's more than a campaign.
02:49It's a movement towards responsible energy citizenship, one student, one classroom, and
02:54one bright idea at a time.
02:57By shaping young minds today, we're not only reducing our carbon footprint, we're empowering
03:02a generation to lead Malaysia toward a sustainable, resilient energy future.
03:07Just when knowledge meets action and awareness becomes habit, the lights of progress will shine
03:11brighter than ever before.
