Scrap iron dealers are accusing foreigners of encroaching on the local scrap metal industry and causing problems
00:07
Members of the Trinidad and Tobago scrap iron dealers association were in penal on Monday
00:12
That's earlier today armed with signs and a megaphone
00:16
They protested outside a scrapyard which they claim is being run by traitors
00:23
Because we bring them here to work with us we bring them here to buy our materials
00:29
Exporters and now they start to take away the yards and them from people who under pressure
00:34
So we as we as we as the members of the association say enough is enough
00:39
We're not waiting for no government to help me. We're not waiting for no police to help me. We saying we
00:46
Going to take back our industry
00:49
This is the start of what we're going to do in all them
00:52
Foreign scrapyards because of mischief in Trinidad and Tobago and and to make it clear, we're buying things we're not supposed to buy
01:00
We're taking things we're not supposed to take. We're doing what we're not supposed to do
01:05
They just don't care about me and this industry
01:10
The association is condemning the condition of the scrapyard and the president of the association
01:16
Claims this could lead to the local scrap metal industry being shut down again
01:23
And we say to the militia, take a watchman. Watch what's going on here. Come and take a look
01:29
All the people that want the media to take a look at it, look at that. That's where they're going to end the scrapyard
01:36
We're just trying to spend money to make sure we place it in a standard and that's where they're going to end the scrapyard
01:43
You understand? We're saying enough is enough. We need to get rid of these people and we now start
01:50
We say we see the slag, if the door is shut down, we're coming back here
01:53
And the other ones that they have, if the door closes down
01:57
We will have to use all the power that we have from the law to make sure it's shut down
