After a weekend of wild weather and clean-up efforts in full swing, are we in for more of the same this week? Josette Deonanan tell us more.

00:00After a weekend of severe weather, the Ministry of Rural Development and the Disaster Management
00:05Unit has joined scores of citizens, mainly in Diego Martin, in clean-up exercises.
00:11Josette Deunanan joins us now. I know we were expecting some gloomy skies over the weekend,
00:16Josette. What was the severe weather all about, and will we be expecting anything like that this
00:23week? Well, Urvashi, over the weekend, we had a trough system passing through the Wynwood Islands
00:28and it did not hold back. What started as some gloomy skies turned into landslides, floods,
00:34and an all-around chaos for many areas. Especially in Diego Martin on Saturday, and then on Sunday
00:40on the eastern side of the island, places like Sangre Grande and surrounding areas felt the
00:45brunt of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Luckily, no casualties were reported in any of these
00:50situations, but let's give a big salutation to those involved in those clean-up efforts.
00:55Now, the big question remains, will we see more of the same this week?
00:59Well, let's dive into the forecast and see what's in store.
01:02Today, things finally took a breather. Along the east-west corridor, we saw some cloudy skies
01:07and some light drizzle, just enough to make the streets a little sticky. Across the Lesser
01:12Antilles, things were mostly fair, but a couple of light to moderate showers here and there kept
01:17us on our toes. Temperatures today, well, it was a warm 33 degrees Celsius in Trinidad and 31 in
01:22Tobago, so yes, we still broke a sweat. Now, let's talk about tonight. Good news, it's cooling
01:28down. Expect temperatures to dip to an even 24 in both islands, so you might just need that fan
01:34on low tonight. Now, going into tomorrow, because there's going to be a little bit more action in
01:40store. During early morning, there is a chance for an isolated thunderstorm to develop over the
01:45eastern and southeastern shoreline and offshore areas of Trinidad, as well as near southern Tobago.
01:51From late morning into the afternoon, things heat up, literally. You can expect some sunshine, but
01:56expect some light to moderate showers. There is also the chance for an isolated thunderstorm over
02:01hilly areas in Tobago and central to northwestern Trinidad, so if you're within these areas, keep an
02:07umbrella nearby or rain boots. In spite of this, temperatures are expected to rise to an even 32
02:13in both islands, but with that heat index at 37, you'll wonder why that rain even bothered to say
02:18hi. It's also safe to say that the rest of this week is looking about the same, but as we've seen
02:24this past weekend, things can change. Tuesday and Wednesday are looking to be cloudy,
02:29Thursday is going to be looking to be sunny, Friday back to cloudy, and then Saturday, sunshine is
02:34coming back to say hello. For our early commuters, the sun will rise at 6.06 in Trinidad and 6.04 in
02:40Tobago, so for the early birds, you just have enough time to make that doubles run before traffic starts.
02:45Sunset will be at 5.40 in Trinidad and 5.38 in Tobago. Now for the fishermen and boaters or
02:52anyone planning a little sea bath, listen up. Seas are moderate with waves between 1.5 and
02:582 meters in open waters and about one meter in some sheltered areas. We're also looking at long
03:03periods as well, so please take your time out there and safety first. Now here's a look at our tidetimes.
03:19Now before we wrap up, let's quickly touch on the situation internationally. Our thoughts go out to
03:24those affected by the severe weather in the UK, where storm Bird caused major chaos over the
03:29weekend. It's been tragic, with at least five lives lost, rivers bursting their banks and heavy
03:35flooding. Our thoughts are with everyone who are affected there. And that's it for tonight's
03:41forecast. Remember, rain or shine, we're strong people. Stay safe, stay dry, and we'll see you
03:46tomorrow night right here. Good night, everyone.
