now in police custody following the seizure of over 1.8 million dollars worth of cannabis
00:05
during an intelligence-led operation in Kanupia on Wednesday. According to police,
00:10
officers acted on information sometime between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday
00:14
and conducted surveillance on a supermarket on Siriza Circular in Kanupia. The officers then
00:21
entered the establishment where they met a 37-year-old man and proceeded to search the premises.
00:27
While searching the rear of the storerooms, they discovered a transparent crocus bag containing
00:32
multiple packets of cannabis. The 33 packets seized had a combined weight of 17 kilograms
00:38
with an estimated street value of 1,865,699 dollars. The man was arrested and taken to
00:49
the Arima police station for processing along with the illegal narcotics. The operation was
00:54
coordinated by ACP Singh and Woman Senior Superintendents Medar and Wilson and supervised
00:59
by Woman Sergeant Ramai in collaboration with the Arima Operations Intelligence Team.
01:06
Members of the Hunter's Sergeant Rescue Team, after being asked by the police to assist in
01:10
locating a body that had been seen yesterday in the Karani River, recovered the body along
01:15
the Karani River in Bamboo No. 1 just after 6 o'clock this morning. Violence Ram Bharat,
01:20
of the team, told TV6 News that they spotted the body lodged in the mangrove about one mile down
01:26
the river from the Bamboo No. 1 area. He said the body appeared to be bloated and in an advanced
01:32
state of decomposition. Ram Bharat said they later took police officers to the area where
01:37
they found a female body which is still to be identified. Only two days ago, the body of a
01:42
Kovar man had been found floating in the Karani River. Police say they will await an identification
01:47
on the latest body and an autopsy to determine cause of death.
01:52
Minutes after four men robbed a grocery in the Aruka area, quick work by police officers in
01:58
the Northern Division led to the arrest of three of the men while one was able to escape.
02:03
Investigators say that the men went to the Aruka grocery around 11 am and robbed the
02:09
establishment of cash and other items. Police officers were able to intercept the vehicle
02:15
in the Maloni area a few minutes later. During an exchange of gunfire, one man was shot and injured
02:21
while two others were held by the low men. A fourth man escaped. The police were able to
02:26
recover the stolen cash and other items the men had taken from the grocery. An illegal firearm
02:32
was also recovered by the police. Investigations are continuing.
