00:00Working in identity verification,
00:03part of that is the submission of an identity document.
00:08Then the other component to verify that you are
00:10the rightful holder of that document
00:12is to submit your biometrics.
00:15This can be in the form of a still photograph or
00:18selfie or a video if we want to confirm liveness.
00:22So that's that extra step.
00:24But this is where the deep fake element comes in.
00:28So if you are not the rightful holder of the document,
00:31there's one of two things you can do.
00:32You can either alter the document,
00:35so illegally change the document in some way
00:37so that it puts your face on the document,
00:40or you can try and in some way change your face
00:43to look like the person who does own the document.
00:46And this is where deep fakes have been employed
00:49so that people can wear essentially a digital mask
00:52of the rightful holder.
00:53The technology is getting better and better.
00:56Generative AI has become more advanced,
00:59easier to use, and more accessible.
01:01And the experts are warning us it's only going to
01:03get better going forward.
01:05So what's in the future for online fraud?
01:07So what we're starting to see occur now
01:11are fraudsters injecting genuine documents.
01:15And one of the elements I think we'll start to see more of
01:19almost as a kind of a repercussion of the improvements
01:24in technology is you will see people trying to do more
01:28low-tech solutions.
01:30So I think we'll see an increase in social engineering scams
01:34or coercion where people with their genuine details
01:39and their genuine face will be tricked or coerced
01:42into submitting them on the fraudster's behalf.
01:45It's become that realistic now that for a human being,
01:48it's almost imperceptible.
01:50We are entering into that period now.
01:51I think we are at a turning point where
01:54it's going to be difficult to believe what you see
01:57with your own eyes if we're seeing it online.
