Look ahead: Remains dry in Northeast; Tropical showers in Florida

AccuWeather Long-Range Expert Joe Lundberg looks ahead to next week where the Northeast and mid-Atlantic could get little drought relief and tropical showers are expected to drench Florida.

00:00The crystal ball meteorologist Joe Lumberg with a look at next week. Joe, let's get right into it.

00:06What's going to be happening here? Well, there are going to be some changes next week, but one

00:10of the things that's probably not going to change very much, Bernie, is the fact that there's going

00:14to be a little drought relief for much of the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. It just looks like

00:18this dry weather pattern that we've been in is not going to change appreciably. Maybe later in

00:22the week there's a hope for some rain, but it's not going to be much. Cold air is going to be

00:26injected into the pattern later next week from a storm system. Actually, two storm systems behind

00:31that second one. That's where we see this cold air moving in. There'll be some tropical showers

00:35from Florida, the endgame of the Atlantic hurricane season. All right, and Joe, just to put a ribbon on

00:41this to show how dry it's been, take a look at this from Philadelphia toward Boston. Yeah, and

00:46look at the percentage of normal. 12% of normal. This is since the first of September. Allentown,

00:52Bethlehem, Easton, 15% of normal. 70% around New York City, and these are the areas where we've had

00:58the biggest concern for bushfires. The Jennings Creek fire obviously is the biggest one,

01:03and if you look at the U.S. Drought Monitor, of course, these areas, the drought is actually

01:06growing worse. Now, the good news is we've seen some improvements across the Ohio Valley, parts

01:10of the Midwest, parts of the Plains, and parts of the Southeast, so that's good news. It'd be nice

01:15to translate some of that moisture eastward. Unfortunately, very little of it's going to get

01:19to the eastern seaboard in the week ahead. All right, early next week, Joe, here comes our big

01:23dip in the jet stream. This, it's what's in the west now. Soaking rain coming again for the central

01:29U.S. Yeah, there probably will be some flooding here early in the week. We're talking Monday,

01:32Monday night, including, you know, Wichita falls up toward Wichita, Kansas, maybe Springfield,

01:37Missouri. There will be a little snow on the northwest side of it, but with this initial

01:41storm, there's not a lot of cold air. It comes in behind it. There'll be a second piece of energy

01:46that drops down behind it. In the east, it's generally dry and mild. As we go into midweek,

01:50though, there are more changes in the jet stream, and it's that second storm system that'll drag

01:54some cold air into the pattern. Coldest area you've seen so far this season for the Deep South,

01:59and you're going to see some snowflakes in the air in places like Detroit, Pittsburgh,

02:03and maybe Charleston, West Virginia later next week. AccuWeather Long Range expert
