00:03Two men have been arrested after 60 kilograms of the rare Blue John mineral were stolen

00:08from the Peak District.

00:10Following a number of suspicious incidents in Castleton, the Derbyshire Royal Crime Team

00:14attended two addresses in the Greater Manchester area.

00:17The search at one of the addresses recovered a large quantity of Blue John, which is a

00:21rare semi-precious metal that is unique to the area and not found anywhere else in the

00:26world.

00:27Two men were arrested in connection with the theft.

00:30A spokesperson for the Derbyshire Royal Crime Team said,

00:33The site is a site of special scientific interest.

00:36It is protected and quarrying of Blue John is strictly controlled.

00:40Theft of this rare fluorite not only harms the natural environment of the site and the

00:43local economy, but it also harms the site's heritage.

00:47The two men who were arrested have been released pending further investigations.

00:53A North Derbyshire-based homelessness charity is asking people to put together rucksacks

00:58that will be handed out among the region's homeless.

01:01Inspired by the annual shoebox appeal, Pathways of Chesterfield have launched their own scheme,

01:06which encourages people to fill a rucksack with several useful items as well as goodies

01:11and treats.

01:12The rucksacks will then be handed out as Christmas presents to homeless people with whom the

01:16charity works.

01:18Suggested items that people might want to put into their rucksacks include socks, woolly

01:22hats, gloves and scarves, torches, flasks, toiletries and sleeping bags.

01:28Pathways is hoping that between 100 and 150 rucksacks will be donated.

01:34Completed and filled rucksacks can be dropped off at 106 Saltergate in Chesterfield any

01:38weekday between 9.30am and 4pm.
