00:00Former Minister of Finance, Daim Zainuddin, was reported to have passed away this morning

00:07when he received treatment at the Asunta Hospital at the age of 86.

00:13Daim's lawyer, Gurdial Singh Nijjar, confirmed his departure when contacted by FMT.

00:20Daim served as Minister of Finance twice.

00:24First, from 1984 to 1991, under the former administration of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad,

00:32where he played an important role in managing the Malaysian economy and implementing structural amendments.

00:40He then returned for a second term from 1999 to 2001,

00:47once again under Mahathir to handle economic issues following the Asian financial crisis.
